    Hey!

    My dad did a lease to own option on his 2020 4Runner SR5 Premium and when his lease was up I made the decision to trade in my 2017 Ford Mustang GT and buy out his 4Runner! He's getting old and moved on to a 2025 Subaru Outback Wilderness Edition. Following his footsteps he recommended I hop into this forum. I used to be big on the car scene but these days in Los Angeles it isn't so cool, excited to move on to a new community...Think a ton of people are moving onto the offroading scene these days. I got a completely stock truck only ever touched by the dealership and a husky who's ready to get out there. Tell me what I gotta know lol

    Welcome from Wisconsin! The possibilities are endless, start out with an idea on mods, see where it leads you. Warning: it could get expensive! Good luck.

    Welcome from Whittier. My 2017 SR5 is a daily driver and overlanding traveler.
    So your tires may be original and now 5 years old. Conventional wisdom is change tire rubber at 6 years old. I ran both the Bridgestone duellers and the Grand trek AT20 factory stock models before switching to a highway friendly All Terrain tire (AT). The stock tires worked well for years of mild use.
    I also found a pair of factory rock rails that bolt onto frame to protect the rocker panels and body from hard hits.
    I am comfortable taking my rig anywhere. A stock 4runner is very capable.

    Welcome and I could give an advice to your dad.
    If he is getting old and 4Runner is too much, he can look at a Lexus GX460. Its little easy to get in and out. (of cause not easy as a station wagon outback). By far reliable than Subaru's cvt transmission.
    I haven't personally driven Outback Wilderness but I can say GX460 interior is by far better than a Subaru Ascent. Needless to say the driving quality. If gas expense is not a problem GX460 is miles ahead of Subaru.
    Sadly you can't buy new or I won't recommend the new GX550 with its questionable 3.4TT engine.

    For the 4Runner;
    I always sell my factory tires off Facebook market place and put that money towards new tires I like.
    I thought I could keep the factory tires on my TRD Pro, but I was wrong. Sold them too, and got tires I like.

    Don't rush into mods as 4Runner is an endless money pit if you start getting in to the mods rabbit hole. I was out of the endless money pit (for now) since Mrs ban me from offroading after our new born. Hopefully she will let me go again leaving them at home.

    I never posted a youtube before. If this works it is an amazing demonstration of the 4runner on a ramp.
    Great fun

    Drive it for a while, get a feel for it, off-road and on, all terrain tire first, rock sliders second. The 4Runner is quite capable in stock trim! I grew up in Torrance. Welcome to the forum!
