Anyone running these tires in Load C? If so can you provide a review. Thanks.

I like the tire design, and off road handling. On road is great as well, very low road noise. They also look great, now keep in mind mine are not load C, but I think the characteristics are the same right?

I had the AT2's on my Taco and have the AT3's on my 4 Runner with no complaints. Toyo makes a great product.

    I have them. 285/70-17, load C.
Only have about 6,000 miles over a few month worth of use. I like them so far.

As good or better than KO2 i had for the last 55,000 miles before.

Have already held balance better than KO2 did. Those were constantly going out of balance and vibrated in the steering at 60mph almost always.

The RT Trail did take a few hundred miles to break in. Like maybe they got flat spots sitting over night that caused some vibrations at at certain speeds but only for 1st 3 or 4 miles then smoothed out. They don't seem to do that anymore now. All smooth ride.

Handling is good. There is something that feels different at rear. Not bad, just something is different from before. Hard to describe.

There is some road noise but i don't notice it if i'm not listening for it. No worse than i had before really.

Can you post a pic of yours. Per Toyo’s website E’ & C’ are only 2 pounds in difference. Would like to compare between yours and Silver Slug’s pics.

@SlvrSlug how is your suspension set up on the rear, are you getting full travel across stock suspension geometry? How is your clearance with 285/75r17 in the rear?

I recently installed a set in Load C. I’ve only put on about 900miles so far, but here are my initial thoughts, coming out of a set of KO2’s in the same load range:

    • Daily driving duties and light rain they’re as good. I feel the KO2’s would grip a tiny bit better with “spirited” driving, but it’s hard to tell and I rarely drive the truck like a sports car.
    • Ride comfort is improved. I thought it was a placebo effect at first, but it was confirmed by my wife as well. They don’t translate certain vibrations into the cabin whereas the KO2 would allow you to feel everything on the road. Might be due to sidewall stiffness?
    • Above 50mph they’re a bit louder than the KO2, but you have to listen for it and I personally don’t find it obtrusive. My KO2’s got fairly loud nearly 10k miles of use.
    • They balanced with fewer weights and have held balance since install. This is something I could never say about my KO2’s and the primary reason I switched out before they fully wore out.
    • They look fantastic!!

I’m about to put them through their first off-road trip in the coming week, and can report back on trail impressions.

Cool, I’d like to hear feedback on how they do offroad.

They are great on dirt and gravel. I haven't done more than that offroad yet with mine.
They kick up far fewer rocks than the M/T tires on my other truck.

I don’t believe we have much trouble in the rear, usually the fronts are the trouble area, but with a little trimming all is well.

So the other day I drove the 4runner and noticed my TPMS light was on got off the truck got some soapy water solution and sprayed all the tires and found a large screw on my front right tire. Went to America’s Tire and asked them to make a repair and also give me an estimate for some Load C Toyo Open Country RT Trails. Well since my KO2’s already had 2 repairs on my rear tires and worn and now 1 in front I ended up buying the Toyo’s. Have to say I am really liking them, they are smoother on the highway than the KO2’s and I swear not as loud. Can’t wait to do some wheeling with them. The Tech at America’s Tire said they were easy to balance. IMG_6808.jpg

Im also running the RT trails in 285 75/R17 load E with a 3/2" lift. Ive had no issues with articulation when off-roading. I would agree with others that these run smooth and surprisingly quiet on road. Traction off road is impressive and have run most marginally difficult trails even in 4H. I have had minor rubbing in the front but it was an easy fix with a minor fender trim. I ma coming from KO2's and IMHO these are a better tire on and off-road.

I’m running C rated 285/70/17. I’ve had them for nearly 5k miles. They handle well on the road, but they are a little louder than my K02s were. MPGs went down a little as well.

They did surprisingly well on both ice and snow on the way up the pass (even though they don’t have the 3 peak rating).

Balancing has been a little bit of challenge for me. I have a slight shimmy at 60 mph, and have taken it back to discount tire once because of it (who knows though, the tech also beat up my wheels when I brought them to be rebalanced).

All in all, I’m happy with them.

Truck looks great!! Glad to hear they handle snow well, I'll be up in the mountains soon.

The 4Runners sensitivity to tire balancing has to be the worst part of 4R ownership, IMHO. Hope you get this resolved.

I came from KO2’s for that same issue took me 3 tries to get them balanced correctly. Found a tire shop that I guess knew what they were doing. I’ve run the RT Trails up to 75 mph and they are smooth and maybe just a tad louder than the KO2’s but in a good way. I’m very happy with them, I’ll be up in Utah end of March hope I get to put some snow under them.

I 100% agree. I have had this issue before with my KO2s, and on my previous Toyota. I usually try to do 65 or 55 just to avoid feeling it.

I'm running them 275/70R17 though. I love them. A little road noise but that's expected since they lean toward the MT tire.

How do you like the e loads? Do you find the ride harsh, or harsher than other load range tires that you run in the past?

I'm thinking of running either these or the AT3 in a 255 80 17 on mine, and multiple people have told me that I don't want an E for a daily driver.

I don't hit off-road as much as I want to, though I'm hoping a remedy that this year, but I do 60 mi of highway a day commuting. Pokémon and miles I put on, I'm not looking to put a huge heavy tire that's going to destroy my mileage. I think the RT in the 255 is about 52 lbs, the AT3 is 50 lb. That's as heavy as I want to go.

    Thanks!

Those of you that have been running these over the fall and winter, how is the wet weather traction? I'm not concerned with snow traction as I have dedicated winter tires.

I’ll chime in on this. So Cal has had above average rainfall this year, I’ve driven thru some heavy downpours on the highway and street and I’ve had zero complaints, mine are a Load C tho. I came from KO2’s and those felt sometimes like I was floating on the highway especially particularly in heavy downpours, that’s been my experience.

Same here out east here we had a lot of rain and I have yet felt anything like it was hydro planing on the highway. I think they do very well on wet roads for a aggressive RT tire

Add to that I love the RT Trails, for the offroad stuff I do they can’t be beat. They are a little louder than KO2’s but I always have something on, Music or Podcasts so the noise gets drowned out.

Those look great. What size are you running? Also, how do they handle in wet conditions? I'm still running the Goodyear Wranglers mine had when I bought it and they're a bit squirrely in the rain.

Thanks. They are a 285/70r17. So far they've been great at handling everything I've thrown at them. Significantly better in wet conditions than my KO2's.

45k mile warranty, right? Assuming in my case 95% road 5% off-road (if that), AT3 would be best...?

My Toyo Open Country AT3's in stock size came with a 60,000 mile warranty. Very pleased with the tires thus far (4 months and 5,000 miles)! They have been great in the rain. No snow to speak of in MD this winter. Yet to go off road.
