I’ve had a few older tacomas back in the day but now the wife’s new TRD 4R has gotten me wanting another SUV to play with. I’ll always be a truck guy because a man needs a truck but, now I’m seriously considering getting a FJ cruiser. Gotta be a little different than the wifey yanno.

Opinions on the FJ’s as far as reliability and offroad capabilities? Any years better than others?

I never cared for the fjs myself but I'm sure they are a dependable vehicle.

It’s a 2 door 4Runner, why wouldn’t it be? Well, aside from the inner fender well cracking that was happening in 2007/2008 models.

It also didn’t get the crawl control, MTS or KDSS so there is that.

    MTS??

I’ve always liked the looks of them. I was reading they also come with an E locker and a 6 speed manual tranny which I’d absolutely want. Seems easy to fit 35” tires too. They’re made in Japan so I figured quality was probably same as 4R.

    What’s not to love!

Ya guys just wait... I’ll own one of these soon. After all the reading I’ve done the past two days, I’m hooked. I’ve got to own one and it’s gonna be wicked. It’ll definitely be sitting on 35’s with a regear.

The FJ is a great vehicle. I almost bought one but at the time had smaller kids so with the goofy rear doors and side windows that aren't large enough to fit a supersize meal bag through without turning it sideways, I passed on it. If Toyota would have done a different style body where the rear doors could be opened without opening the front doors, I probably would have had one a long time ago. An the best part is it came in a manual trans. Basically a 4runner with a manual trans. Solid vehicle.

Ha! I hate McDonalds so I’m good! And the manual tranny really excites me. It definitely gives me an old skool vibe with awesome offroad ability. You don’t see many around which is nice.
