How is this not causing cognitive dissonance in you (or the person doing this)?

    Yeah, but...

What if he changed his oil every 5K miles? Maybe both trucks would have made it to 2 million miles?!

The first truck was still running when Toyota bought it back from him. He’s still driving the second one. Maybe he’ll try for 2 million.

I do 10k oil and filter changes with 250k now. Doesn't use oil or leak. I have always used Mobil 1 and Toyota or Wix filters. Synthetic oil is the key. It doesn't sludge or break down in heat. It also swells your seals and gaskets slightly prolonging life and preventing leaks. Mobil 1 was first synthetic oil I remember from 1973 and what we used Mobil lubricants in the military. No matter the brand, synthetic is better in a Toyota. I use 5w30 with my mileage now. That's what was originally used in 4.0. I use Mobil 1 75w90 in diffs and transfer case and service every 100k even though it's good for 500k. Never an issue or leak.

Nice. We have a lot of examples of high mileage vehicles doing fine with high oil change intervals. No reports of engine failures yet.
