Wondering if I should sell & join the jeep crowd? Hot pink would really appeal to the wife. Lol
I should have put this in the funny pictures but this is better click bait! LMAO
    Sorry,

I really don't dislike Jeeps. I just could not daily drive one.
I am not hating on Jeeps. Fyi

The only jeeps i really miss are the ones built before the early 80's. Totally restored a 76 CJ5 back in the mid 90's (wish i still had it).
Used to drive upstate Pa to hunt for 20 years...we had 4 different jeeps ( 2 CJ5's...2 CJ7's ..one of 7's had a 304 in it.)
Oh my....they were the good ol days!!!

I'm strongly looking into buying a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon. There are few things that I dislike but I don't see a better rig for trail runs than that.
But we will still have a 4runner for daily use and road trips.

I like Jeeps. There's no hate here. Having said that, the TJ (tinyJ) in the first post is just too small for me.

I rode in a friends Rubicon a few times. Couldn't believe how horrible the ride was. It may be an awesome trail vehicle but for daily driver, no thank you. I have another friend who had a pink cj and traded it in for an Outback cause she got tired of the harsh ride.

I would love a 2-door Wrangler for a trail toy. A lift and 37's and it would wheel circles around the 4runner.

But, the runner rules for a camping rig. Still very capable on trails, and more room for camping gear, and of course, beer. Plus, the 4runner is probably much more enjoyable to drive cross county.

This is spot on! I miss my 2 door jeep. There is nothing on a trail that can compare to a 2 door Rubicon with lift and the proper tires. I just don’t do that anymore and 4R was better for my overall need. 2 door jeeps are pretty fun and impressive but nowhere near the “overall” vehicle a 4R is.

For me, comparing my 4R and my ‘03 TJ is pointless. Because I’ll keep my (non suv) TJ to the end.
The nanny-fied 4-R, yeah, not so much.
And comparing my old ’73 FJ-40 to a ‘73 CJ5, for the most part, same same.
But the FJ-40 to my TJ, is basically just leafs vs coils and the TJ’s PS and AC vs not.
This is driving the same highway to the same trail when I was still in SoCal.

I believe, (IMO) that if Toyota Corporate could wrap their heads around building a swb, 2 door, solid axle vehicle, with the likes of an old FJ or hell even a BJ-25, it could sell like hot cakes. And it could change the must upsize attitude of FCA to build a more realistic Willys/Kaiser/AMC era Jeep.

    What's nanny-fied about it?

We like Jeep’s too. My only real complaint is the camera on the 4Runner and if that’s it, I am OK with that,

Great topic! Had an 2002 4R, traded that in for 2011 LC (which I still have, my son drives it and he loves Toyota 190k miles), bought an 09 Tundra to which I traded in for a 2013 Jeep 4door. Had 33’s on it and also line-x the entire interior. It was OK.....very rough ride and just got overall tired of it. Traded it in last month for my new 2021 4Runner. I did get 26k for my 2013 Jeep so from a resale (trade) that was very good. I’ll miss the top off, but with my back window down and sunroof I’ll just tell myself it’s the same! Loving new the 4Runner ride and also enjoying this forum with you all.

I would buy a clean YJ. True jeep that is a better value than any other generation because AMC chose to make the headlights the wrong shape. CJ5 are also good value if you are willing to put in work. 2 door jeep all the way

Anyone who says the YJ isn't a real jeep because it has square headlights is being obtuse, they cant think outside the box and we wouldn't be square.

I missed out back in 2012. Estate sale had an 88 that I was told mint with under 20k on the clock for 5k.
I left work early to go buy it and it was gone:annoyed:
Because of Fiat I would prefer an older model. I've owned 2 wranglers over the years and they are just fun!

Next time that you’re on a low traction surface, step on the gas to get the rear tires to spin.
    What happens?
Nanny kicks in and says, nay nay old man. I’m the boss of you.

That is until the speedo reaches 30 mph and guess what...
    It gets hobbled.
Try it when you have a chance to but please be careful.

Even when you disabled it properly?

I know you can turn it off momentarily by hitting the button and it will turn back on by itself. My understanding is that if you hold it down while completely stopped it will stay off until you shut the car off.

I’ve tried it on snow covered ice in an open field. It was in Drive, T/C off, it even shifted into 2nd. As soon the rear tires reached 30 and went limp with my foot still on the gas.
Not arguing, just saying it happened with me.
But in my TJ, in high range, f/r locked, donuts all day till I get dizzy.

Yes, if you only hit the button for a second it will automatically reactivate.

Stop, and hold it down until VSC off lights up. Then it will not reactivate.

I'm not saying Jeeps aren't cool. I'm telling you that traction control can be deactivated if you use the proper procedure.

The "BEEP BEEP BITCH" had me cracking up. I shopped around for a Jeep prior to, had some less than delightful experiences at dealers, did research, rode in my buddies Rubicon for a road trip, and ultimately decided on the 4R. He's currently in lengthy (months upon months) conversations regarding his Rubicon burning through quarts upon quarts of oil, yet doesn't show smoking, leaking or anything. They recently flew in a couple of engineers as they apparently have to make the final decision on whether or not he get's an entire engine replacement or they keep trying to diagnose. He initially purchased the lifetime maintenance package.

My neighbor also had a Jeep, and when asked if he would do it all over again, he said no way. True to his word, he has since sold it and never looked back.

Anyway, no hate on Jeeps - it's just a different culture and beast as a whole.

I came from Jeep back to 4R after nearly 30 years.

I had nothing but good experience with the brand, due mainly to good relationship with a mod friendly dealership. Don't under estimate the value of a couple large pizza's to the service department a few times a year.

Came back for the ride comfort/size of the Runner. Every trip from home is 1k to 2k miles to get to decent trails. While the Wrangler was a better trail rig, those hours upon hours of highway miles in a 2 door were life sucking/butt killing.

Surprised the Runner isn't as big of an off road compromise as expected. Still learning where its corners are/tire placement, but otherwise the capability of Atrac + rear locker has exceeded expectation.
