i recently purchased a 2019 4Runner Limited. Prior, I had a ‘16 Tundra Limited and standard equipment was front and rear parking sonar sensors, blind spot warning light in the mirrors and I assumed it was standard equipment on all Limiteds. I have gotten warnings beeps from the front sonar, but never from the back. Is it possible I only have front sonar? Also, is there a way to purchase an OEM blind spot sensor?? Thanks in advance for all of your help.

Have you read your owners manual?

Yes, but it’s generic. It shows 1 button (which is depressed) for both the front and rear sonar. Since the front is working, I can only assume the rear should be as well.
My question was... is it possible that even though rear is standard, is it possible not to have it?

Yeah I don't know. Hopefully someone will chime in. Maybe @Agent_Outside will know? Shouldn't you have visible sensors in the rear bumper, like little round buttons?

U can't just add the BSM (Blind Spot Monitor). There are 1 box like sensor on each rear corner of the bumper. If none of the models come with it, it will NOT be pre-wired for it. Plus you would have to add the following: cab cut off switch as well as the mirrors to have the lights and icon on the mirrors.
I came from a 17 Tacoma that had BSM as well as RCTA (Rear Cross Traffic Alert) loved those features. But the 19 4runner night shade edition has neither 3 systems. Kinda odd if you ask me.

You can’t add blind spot OEM blind spot monitors and yes it’s possible to only have front sensors.

Since it has become law that every single new vehicle sold in the US market has to have a rear view camera that has become a standard for the rear. This is not 4Runner specific but in the industry as a whole base level is back up cam, a step up is rear view cam with front parking sensors (lets be honest, why do you need the beeps if you can physically see what’s there?). Eventually it gets up into top view cameras with sensors all around.

If your rear bumper has physical parking sensors in them then they should function, if there aren’t sensors it’s not at all uncommon to only have front sensors and a rear camera. Right not my POS rental car is a new Ford Mustang, I feel like this one is build backwards in that it has a rear view camera and rear parking sensors, which is pretty redundant, but nothing for the front.

Are you in reverse when you are NOT getting a beep from the rear sensors? As you probably already know from your Tundra they don't activate otherwise. If not try backing up to something solid or have a family member walk past the rear bumper while in reverse with foot on the brake to test it. If it still doesn't work I would head to the dealer because you have them and they should work under the correct circumstances.

2019 Limited are identical to the 2018 that I have. You do have rear back up sensors, you should be able to see them in the bumper. Back up slowly toward a wall and they should activate. If they don't, then head to the dealer.

Thanks to everyone for your help! I do have the sensors in the back bumper. So I’m guessing they just aren’t working?? So sad for a brand new vehicle.

There are 3 pairs of sensors for the intuitive parking assist feature. Look at page 229 for the specs and details. It is available online at the Toyota site. It is standard on the Limited model too.
