    It's more similar to a 70 series Landcruiser than a 4Runner.

Plus, we already have a sub-forum for the 5th gen's spiritual successor..

In 2019, when the G-wagon got its first real redesign since its inception. Front suspension became independent, and steering became rack & pinion. Width grew by 5".

Oh oh, them’s fightin words around here! :D

@Captain Spalding , I was thinking the similarity to the 4runner was more about the fact they’re both wagon style 4x4s. My metric is not just about off-road capability, but also whether it makes a good place for self-contained camping.

Admittedly the 4 door jeep comes close, but it’s not quite big enough for all the utility a wagon brings.

Isn’t the grenadier more expensive than a gx?

Yes. But, the base price is a few thousand less than an Overtrail+.

I tell you what, if we could get the 70 Series in the states I wouldn’t have posted this to begin with. Toyota makes some great models for the rest of the world but somehow we get the trailings.

By that reckoning, i.e. discounting the offroad capability, a Subaru Forester is superior to the 4Runner. Its cargo space is both flatter and longer.

The 4Runner is a jack-of-all-trades. And that’s great. But let’s not forget the rest of that saying. Master of none. You can tow with it, but not that much. You can sleep in it, with the caveat that you’re short, but if not then some disassembly is required. You can fit larger tires, but it requires determination. The only place where it excels is reliability. We’ll have to wait and see if that’s as true for the 6th gen as it has been for the 5th.

I meant it was my metric (both wagons) for justifying, in jest, a Grenadier subforum here on the 4runner forums.

The good thing is the Grenadier depreciates as quickly as other European vehicles, so low mileage used ones are cheaper. Here's one that lost $20k from MSRP after a year and 760 miles: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/2024-ineos-grenadier-37/

Bud, if at age 59 you are in your final years, I'm age 72 and must be way down that road with my 2024 4Runner! Age is a state of mind. "The Older I get, the better I was!"

They are good engines. The peripherals and cooling system are complicated and compact. I would drive a high mileage one across the US no worries. I would not rip a 50k mile down washboard roads 30+ miles off a roadway. The plastic cooling system will come apart and you aren't doing a trailside repair.
