So I picked up this 89 with a 3.0 and 5speed trans. Inside is immaculate and there is zero rust on this thing. I have to do a head gasket of course. Aside from the obvious gaskets, new water pump, and radiator, I have about 2k to spend on it. What would you guys recommend? I have a 22re I am rebuilding that will go in when the 3.0 takes a dump so I’m not spending anything on the motor. What do you guys think I should spend my money on? I also have 33’s in my garage im putting on.

33"KM2s, 4.88s, Spartan Locker, TG rear bumper, AllPro Kickout sliders, 4Crawler 1.5" BJS, OME 2" Dakar springs.
3.4 swap which is much easier to do than the 22RE swap.

I have a 87 with a good trans and I’m rebuilding my 22re now. I’m looking to spend it else where than the engine

What are you planning on doing with it? Just a camping/hunting rig, mild trail runner, or hardcore rockcrawler?
Also check the sheet metal around the windshield frame. This is where these trucks get cancer/rot.

It will be for mild trail riding, camping and beach cruising. We don’t have anything hardcore out here so a sas would be pointless. The frame is actually is great condition and the body has almost 0 rust on it.

Have you considered selling them? I'm particularly interested in acquiring some back seats.

Back to your original question. If you are talking mild trails and the beach, it seems you wouldn't need much. Winches and rock bumpers would seem unnecessary. You might want to invest in some recovery equipment, to get yourself out of deep sand. Maybe a receiver to pull a trailer or hold a carrier for camping trips? If you don't plan on getting crazy, and everything is mechanically sound, you don't really need anything. I've been reading that 33's might rub without some minimal lift. I read somewhere else that a 1" lift with a 1" body lift will get you enough space for the bigger tires without having to redo brake lines and such. Having just gotten started on cleaning up my recently acquired 87, I would take anything I say with a grain of salt.
