I like the after wheels. I could have gotten flat black, gloss white or alligator green which was more reptile brownish gold. I got the Black Rhino matte gunblack for contrast and not looking like every white 4runner with black wheels. White would have really been different and stood out, but I thought a little to pimp for me at my age.

Actually the 33's even with a 17x8.5 -12 wheel fit without rubbing after just pushing the fender liners up.
The 34s and spacers required more trimming of course. No rubbing now even at full flex.

Not sure why people battle this so much. Trim what rubs. Move on to bigger things in life :crapstorm:

Change something leads to changing something else. I'm going to remove mudflaps and trim Limited body molding and flap for a little more. I'm like you I just started cutting.

I think my offset hurts a little. I have had to learn about wheel offset on new Toyotas. I have -12 offset. I like the stance going higher. Usually you want to go out some for stability.

You know....I'm coming around again to liking the white letters showing, too. I always mounted my BFGs on my other trucks that way back in the day, but at some point along the way it stopped being popular.

I'm a little bummed that the Toyo OC's I just bought didn't appear to be offered in raised white letters, so this time around anyway...I'll be running black walls

You can buy letter kits that are permanent. Google Toyo Open Country white letter kit.

I swear I just had the option for white letters on my Toyo's. I chose black but had the option

Question regarding the Mickey Thompsons: Are they about as quiet on the highway as your original tires or are they noticeably louder?

I don’t think the Mickey’s are bad at all. But everyone has their own opinion. I think they ride better and no noise than my Nitto Ridge Grapplers I had on my 20 4runner.

Hey I was wondering, do people who have a 5th gen and get bigger tires ruin their ability to carry a full size spare, or does the area for it underneath/behind the hitch receiver accommodate larger sizes?

You can go up to about a 33.5" tire before you gotta start modding the stuff underneath to fit bigger. I have a 32.2 x 11.5 under mine and have about 1" larger diameter i could squeeze in. With the width i have the tire hangs down a bit but i like the look.
Another forum member was asking this same question a few weeks ago and i got under and took some pix. There is a bracket close to the rear diff you could mod, and gain about another 1" larger diameter pretty easy, and if you were handy with metal work you could easily notch the receiver and plate it back up with a radius piece of steel. Modding the front crossmember and the receiver you could theoretically fit a 35" tire.

I have a 285/70-17 on a TRD Pro wheel that fits fine. I know that some have been able to fit a 285/75-17 as member AIRDAM stated. I don’t have KDSS, and KDSS takes up additional room that may interfere with a ~33” spare tire. Something to consider if you have KDSS or a hitch tongue that protrudes in farther through the receiver hitch.

My Pro came with Nittos, which I changed to 275/70-17 BFG KO2’s in an E load. Tire was quiet, but rode a little too rough, imo. I moved up to Falken AT3W’s in an SL 285/70-17. Just slightly more noise than the KO2’s. Good ride, good in rain, poor wear. Wanted another SL tire in the same size as the Falken, but lightweight and with better wear. The Baja Boss AT checked all the boxes and are good in rain. They are just a tad bit louder than the Falkens, but it only takes a few months until you forget about the difference.
They ride nice and the noise is not much different than the others. Time will tell as to the longevity. I’m happy with them.

I'm considering going from stock size to 285 in SL. Did you notice a drop in mpg? Looks like SL is only about 6lbs heavier than my stock size in Toyo AT3. Did you have any rubbing? I have aftermarket wheels with 0 offset.

I have an almost 3” lift, which many members say it has nothing to do with clearance. That being said, I pushed my front inner fender wells forward, the Pro comes with the front fenders trimmed, I have my caster set at 3.7degrees, no BMC or front mud flap removal. Only very slight scruffs at max articulation off road. All 4Runners differ when it comes to clearance issues.

Regarding mpg, I lost 2mpg’s with the E load 275’s, which weighed 58lbs, then gained back about .5mpg with the 285 SL Falkens at 50.5 lbs, and no difference seen yet in the Baja’s at 48lbs. Although it seems slightly better.
    .25mpg?

Looks great. any observations on the Toyo ride noise, comfort, etc? I'm leaning towards this brand. Toyo 1a BFG 1b....

Yeah my BMC is pretty aggressive compared to most. If it ever bugs you enough you can consider rounded BMC plates from RSG metalworks. Or a full on relocation.
This BMC was enough for me to avoid any drama. Even with 285/75/17 on a 17x8.5 -44 (effective offset w/ spacers.)
