IF i am at a red light and go forward on green taking it easy it shifts into 2nd quick. If i kind of gun it off the line it will go revup more in 1st then shift to second.

Is.there a.trick to make tranny hold 1st gear a little longer without having to stomp on it? Or now we talking tuners and bs like that which i wont do.

Is there such an actual thing as "it learns" your driving style?

I'm sure it's programmed that way for fuel economy. You don't necessarily need to stomp on it, but a little extra throttle will get it to hold 1st a bit longer.

I try to get mine to shift around 2500 RPM's as that seems to be a good compromise of getting up to speed without getting shit fuel economy.

Bump it over to S4 around town (anything under 45mph). I find it to shift more predictably and hold on to gears like you’d expect. Over 45mph use S5 (or not). Once you’re over 60mph, though, then S5 just makes sense.

Regular “D” does learn your driving habits. So if it’s a brand new truck, “D” might be funky for a bit. It’ll smooth out in time. In S-modes there is no “learning”.

S-mode is simply a gear limiter. It limits the highest gear the engine will shift to. In S4, for example, the truck will never shift into 5th gear. I also think the torque converter is “out of play” in S3 and S4 (if I remember correctly).

I usually don't notice it, as I'm usually in S4 or S5. The weird thing is that the light stays on while cruising at 85. It doesn't seem to shut off until around 88 MPH. Not that I would ever drive that fast..:spy:

Its the most annoying thing in the world.

I turned it off before I drove off the dealer lot.

I don't think it comes on unless you're in overdrive.

Just go 90 and it won't come on:D

Ours is 70. I'm pretty sure the eco light only comes on in overdrive, so it doesn't bug me.

It comes on any time you are in the "green" zone. If I wanted to save gas I wouldn't be in an SUV.

I'll pay attention the next time I'm driving it. I bought mine for getting off-road and towing/hauling stuff. If I can get decent mileage while doing so, I will.

If we don't start caring about fuel economy, we're all going to end up driving self driving priuses. And, we'll have to ride a bike or go on foot if we want to get off of the pavement.

If you’re foot is not telling your T4R that you need to get up and moving quickly, it’s going to use the gear that’s most appropriate for what your foot is telling it.

The ECO light doesn’t do anything other than provide biofeedback to let you know if your foot is currently economical. If you take your foot off the gas and use cruise control, the computer is in complete control and there is no need for it to attempt to adjust the nut behind the steering wheel so it goes dark. You can always put a piece of duct tape over the light if it bugs you, but then in a week or two we’ll probably be see you as an original poster for a thread “Help! My ‘Runner only gets 12 MPG!”

Are you serious or just BSing around? I can turn it off in vehicle settings. But it sounds like all it would do is turn off the light and not "tell" the ECU "this ahole wants to rev it and dont care about mpgs."

You are correct. It would not affect performance. It would just shut of the light.
