Had my '19 Limited for two months and about 1300 miles, replaced my '09 Venza. Bought my wife a '18 Lexus with all the latest tech back in Jan '18. I too became fond of the driver aids e.g. blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, radar cruise, emergency breaking, parking assist, 360 camera, etc. I thought I at least had to have the blind spot monitoring and 360 camera, then I test drove the '19 Limited. Although my Venza didn't have any of the new tech, the mirrors worked extremely well but the windows toward the rear were quite a bit shorter than the 4Runner windows. When I test drove the 4Runner, the mirrors were even better. Adjusted where the only part of your vehicle that you see (barely) is the rear door handles, just about eliminates any blind spot. If this doesn't help you feel comfortable, the large windows really enhance the ability to see most anything around you...even with 15% tint at night.

Now that was the long way of saying, don't talk yourself out of this tried and true, thoroughly tested, proven and relatively simplistic vehicle. If you have not yet done so, recommend taking a test drive with an open mind and see how you feel, you may surprise yourself with how comfortable you will feel and how well you can monitor what is going on around you.

This works. If you can see any part of your vehicle in your sideview mirrors then they are not properly positioned. Mine are adjusted so that when half of the car behind me is visible in the rearview mirror, the other half is visible in the sideview mirror. I can see the car in the sideview mirror up until the point that it becomes visible from my peripheral vision without turning my head. I find it easy to adjust them this way in the neighborhood using a parked car on the street as a reference.

I have always done it this way, zero blind spots. The wife and kids can't seem to figure it out.

Yeah it feels weird when you can't see the side of the vehicle in the side mirrors. But paying attention, one realizes that what they're missing in the side mirror is clearly visible in the overhead mirror.

I tried that after seeing the video. So not going to use it that way, it's unnatural after 40 years driving the way we were taught .sure it ends blind spot dead zone but lose track of the rest the world, I would rather flick the blinker, tilt to the side and roll when clear.

I hear ya. It is hard to get used to. That's why i ended up getting the RAV4 mirrors. Best of both worlds.

My whole mission from here on out is to buy vehicles that don't have the text and drive option (safety sense)

I feel your pain.... i traded in my '15 4runner trail for a '18 trd pro tacoma. I love the features but missed my old 4runner. so... I bought a '15 TRD Pro 4runner for work and kept my Tacoma TRD Pro for everything else. i wish they combined the two.black trd.jpg

I had a 2018 Tacoma. Almost got deaf in my left ear from all the highway noise. I sent a hate email to toyota engineers about it. My knees are forever damaged by the unadjustable steering wheel. The transmission was a moody b...h and at 60mph I felt the engine was maxed out. Traded it in. Now drive an ugly Tundra and love it!

Doesn't the 2020 Tundra have that ? If so, can you shut it off ?

Exactly. I do the same and it works perfectly. It makes me crazy when someone else drives my car and adjusts the mirrors in. Why?! There's this crazy idea everywhere that the side mirrors are supposed to show the sides of the vehicle. I think it's based on something people were taught in Drivers Ed in the 1950s. Yet kids these days do it too. It's nuts but people can't seem to stop themselves.

The point of side mirrors is to show you what you can't see in your rearview mirror or your peripheral vision. Simple.

I may be in the minority here but I have a 2020 Tacoma with a manual transmission and I love it. Obviously the automatic has a lot of unhappy customers but the manual is really fun and responsive. If I’m have transmission issues it’s due to me.

I have the 2020 4 runner with Toyota Safety Sense.
I like the 8 inch touchscreen, like the Android auto& bluetooth for my cellphone, the radar cruise control is great/everthing else I dont care to use.
The pre-collision warning has gone off twice for no reason(I adjusted the sensitivity to low). It also stopped working last 2 days because of ice&snow
