I think it'll be more like 2023 for a 6th gen, especially after adding TSS to the current gen.

Yeah I wouldn't think they'd add the TSS for one year.

If the democrats win in 2020 the 4runner will be no longer legal .. THE GREEN DREAM LOL...
IMO I did guess correctly that the 4 runner 5th gen would not change eng/drivetrain because of the current administration deleted many regulations under OBema ..

I am planning on building a barn and have a few horses so I can get to the store and work..
if these idiots win, they will not ban our gas guzzlers they will tax the carbon fuels to the max .. then we will all not be happy ..

all of these left pol idiots are in the green dream ..
I hope that these green dream pols will loose.. not many want these regs effect , how we live ..

well I am not in control of this Green dream so not gonna put the money down .. you never know how these pol games play out ..

my guess back 4 years ago was nascar will be shutdown ... well the dimms lost in 2018 so car racing still strong ..
dayton 500 Toyota won .. that was a hell of a firestorm ...

    You sound paranoid.

Nascar and 4Runners aren't going anywhere because of a Democrat being elected as president.

You'll end up spending a lot more money on a horse than you will buying gas for your 4Runner.

Do you know how much it costs to own a horse?

2nd gen Tacoma seats sucked too. Both my 07 and 13 killed my back.
I can drive the 4Runner all day with no pain.

I think specifically it's the engine/ auto transmission mapping and the engine's lack of low end torque. The physical auto transmission itself is probably fine. That engine in no way has the low rpm, part-throttle grunt of the 4.0. Some of the fanboys say it does, but they are delusional or haven't driven both engines. With the 3.5 being smaller displacement AND bleeding off compression (and further virtual displacement) with the goofy fake "Atkinson" cycle, physics pretty much dictates that it won't have the torque of the 4.0. The MT version helps mask the problem. This is why at 70mph cruise on the highway the 3.5/AT combo just sucks and gear hunts. Anyway! Long live the 4R/4.0 combo! It's not awesome but just enough. lol

my family member has the V8 runner that is a good runner .. I drove it a few times then I purchased the 2016 runner V6 was not all that happy with the lower torque in hill country.. but a good vehicle with no defects still no problems .. wish I had a V8 ....

Bought my 2016 Tacoma new in the summer of 16. I finally had enough and traded it in on a 2019 pro Thursday. I spent 2-1/2 years and over 10k trying to make me happy in the taco, it wasn’t happening. Look here to see all the things that failed to make me happy in the taco https://www.tacomaworld.com/members/marbleyard.192084/
I love the 4Runner and knew I would because I traded an ‘05 for the taco. I wanted to wait for 2020 mode for the green but I hate TSS with a passion and the 19 4Runner has none of that crap!

Seems to be a trend people either love the 3rd gen Taco or despise them. I have been noticing a lot of issues with them though.

I feel your pain. I had a 17’ off-road (OVtune and regear) with about 10k into it and ended up trading it in on a f150. I had an 08 taco before that with no issues and loved the truck. I can’t believe how bad Toyota dropped the ball on the 3rd gens and then have no solution for the transmission in 3 years. I plan on buying my wife a 4Runner this fall. She’s always wanted one and I know it will be a solid vehicle for a long time so looking forward to owning our first 4Runner here soon.

I'm on the same boat as you!

I bought a 2019 Tacoma TRD OR and have 13k miles on it now. I am taking it in to the dealer to have some things looked at since it's giving me issues when I'm in 4H and go back to 2WD. I'm about to jump into a new 2020 4Runner because it has the updated tech and Apple Carplay. Good luck to you!

Had a 2019 Taco and hated it. So many issues with it. Got rid of it and got my 4runner.

Aside from a steering wheel vibration issue I am having, I love this thing.

What kind of issues were you having with the Tacoma? I'm starting to notice some things on mine.

I had the dreaded "rumble strip vibration" every time I came to a stop. Toyota foreman was even baffled by it and couldn't understand what was causing it.

I also had steering wheel, brake, gas pedal vibrations.

Shitty shifting, transmission could never make up its mind on what gear it wanted to be in.

On the highway there was this really loud wind noise coming in even with windows all the way up. It sounded like if one of my windows was slighty cracked open.

Gotcha. Did they offer you any help or was it just a "Sorry, can't do anything about it."?

After many dealership visits, they said they were going to have some master tech or something from Toyota corp to come take a look at it.

I was so tired of dealing with it that I just traded it in.

On my 4runner however, since I am having steering wheel vibration issues, I complained to Toyota and they gave me a free 7 year/100,000 premium extended warranty since I had issues with two of their vehicles.

I LOVE this 4runner, however it will be my last Toyota. Issues with two brand new 35K + vehicles? Not again

PLEASE test drive the crap out of the 4runner before buying. Not all are having the problem mine has, but many are.

Test drive a few and take your time.

Yea I can understand that. I'm waiting for the 2020 4Runner so I'll have to deal with the Tacoma until then and will probably just trade in. I'm honestly considering the 2020 RAV4 TRD as well since I'm not doing any crazy off-roading (I hate getting expensive vehicles all scratched and banged up).

This is my first Toyota and I'm honestly surprised at the lack of quality! I'm not other options I have. Subarus are kinda ugly. Maybe Honda? Thanks for the info. I'll be test driving the crap out of whatever I am thinking of buying.

I had a 2016 Tacoma and got really use to the BSM. I traded in for a 2019 OR 4Runner and did the RAV4 mirror swap, one of the best mods I have done. The BSM on the Tacoma gave my eyes muscle memory to look in the upper corners of the mirrors when changing lanes. The RAV4 mirror has the blind spot mirror in the same location as the BSM indicator on the Tacoma so you don’t have to retrain your brain.

Agreed! I decided against the 2020 and the safety sense because I don’t text and drive, I know what I’m doing, I don’t need my vehicle to help. But as I agreed, the spot mirror is the way to go!

I came from multiple vehicles with their brand of saftey sense and thought I couldn't live without, like how cool is that! I was going to wait for a 20 for 2 reasons, safety sense and a larger nav screen.
I rented a runner for a day and learned as others stated, view is pretty good and I didn't miss or need it like others with a bad view. My rental had the premium audio and it sucks, I knew right then aftermarket is going in. Bought a 19 and couldn't be happier.
Dunno where your at but at least in my blue town they are raising the crap out of tax and car sales tax is going through the roof. Another reason I'm glad I bought now

I will add on to the fun. Had a 2013 Tacoma. It was awesome. Made the mistake of trading it in for a 2018 TRD sport loaded!! It started sputtering at 3,500 miles and would do it, sometimes, at 52 mph. Shifting up and down. Tried different gas. Researched computer upgrades. Had all the TSBs done. It would go away then relearn to do it again. Toyota said, yep they run like that but only 10% of people don’t like it so there is no fix. Not to mentioned the JBL upgraded radio likes to reset all the time. Lol. Also no fix.
After 1 year of going out of my mind, I traded it in for a 4Runner TRD OR premium. Best decision ever. May only get 17mpg but better than 20 with a terrible ride. Love it. The new Tacos just don’t ride right with the 3.5.

The resetting of the JBL drives me crazy! It happens randomly but could never figure out what triggers it. Initially I was debating between the Tacoma and 4Runner but went with the Tacoma because of the updated tech and slightly better MPG. Both felt spacious to me since I was coming from a 2015 Civic Si Coupe. Looking back, I wish I would have researched the issue with the Tacoma more and gone with the 4Runner! I thought about selling the Tacoma now and just waiting for the 2020 4Runner but I suppose I'll keep it and trade in when the time comes.

Your 4Runner is exactly the one I was thinking of getting. It's so nice *drool

No offense but all that techy stuff with blind spot monitoring etc. makes for lazy less aware drivers. I have literally had people with that shit and noticeable yellow light on the mirror probably beeping going on merge into my lane. Just stay aware and drive like we did before all this stuff. Buy some blind spot mirrors to put on.

^exactly. If they force saftey sense they should mandate common sense training for drivers
