    Hello y'all,

I have a 98 4runner that has a misfire in cylinder 3. The shop I took it to ran a compression test confirming it's an issue with the head. I've been told to either rebuild it or replace the engine. Anyone have any local recommendations for someone mobile or a reliable shop that can take a look?

Not trying to be a smart ass, but current hourly shop labor close to $150 per hour. Replacing cylinder head gaskets will be 10 hours. Add parts and you have another thousand. For 22 years old vehicle spend almost 3k not working out well. diy.

Welcome from Wisconsin! Are you talking about rebuilding the head or rebuilding the entire engine? How did this shop determine it was a issue with the head? Just a compression test is hard to determine if it is indeed some rings that went bad or a head gasket or valve. If this is just the cylinder head, try to find a rebuilt one that has been resurfaced on the gasket surface, off with the old.. on with the new. Also, you might want to get a 2nd opinion from a different shop.
