Hi everyone. I'm in Rocklin and just joined this forum yesterday. Good to see so many locals here. I just bought my first 4Runner 3 months ago. Bone stock. Hoping to save enough to get some work done on it.

Those nightshades don't need much @ee4r21. If you want, you can join us May 23rd for a little ride.

Thanks for the invite @icyhotahs! So, my stock Nightshade wouldn't have problems where you guys are heading? I'll be honest. I'm very much a newb. I've never gone off trail and have always wanted to try. Just never had anyone to go with to show me the ropes.

No worries dude, it'll mostly be fire roads and a little light climbing. However, even though I don't think I have to say this, there's still a chance for scratches, rock chips, dents, etc. It's your baby, and your business. We're all different with our trucks.

Gotcha. I'm actually going out camping on Memorial Day weekend with wife's friend. It'll be the first time going off trail since it's only 4wd accessible. That's what I've been told. Was contemplating getting my feet wet with you guys on the 23rd. Let me be extra sure my wife didn't plan anything but I would definitely like to try and see. How far is Cisco Gap? Is that Emigrant Gap area? How long is the trail?

We don't have any firm plans yet. Probably about 8 miles of forest dirt road that I've done in my Honda Odyssey, with a stop or two along the way to pose on boulders, maybe check out an Indian site.... Then we hit an area with a couple short trails (maybe 2-4 miles) that will require 4Lo. The trails are narrow, so you need to be careful to avoid brushing against a tree or that one boulder, but you usually have the option of turning around ahead of time. And we might end the day climbing up to Signal Peak, probably the best view in this area, another easy high-clearance road.

My guiding principle is to not damage my truck. I do have a lot of scratches, though.

I think I'll adopt that principle!

Don't mind the forest roads. Worried a bit about narrow roads. Signal Peak sounds awesome! Keep me posted.

Respectable. You bought a Limited; I would keep that clean as a whistle. I do always carry an electric chainsaw and a set of loppers, we'll see how far that gets us! haha

I'm actually thinking about coming down for this... depends largely if I'm still off work then. Could come down the night before and camp and meet you guys in the morning at Cisco Gap.

    Edit, I'm in Eureka.

Eureka?! Haha I'm a transplant from Arcata. Fickle Hill for life, son!

I'd be down to house you if you're not a murderer or a recovering alcoholic.

So I'm most likely gonna be off then. My buddy who lives in Folsom and has 4Runner envy (cause dat fool bought an Impreza) is gonna let me stay with him the night of the 22nd and then we'll ride together in my truck for the meet.

I trust you dudes will update the thread accordingly as it gets closer? Doing breakfast or anything beforehand?

I have a mildly lifted ORP with a winch. I'll bring some basic recovery gear and straps though it don't sound like we'll need it. I have a 2M mobile and two 2M portables on a private freq I can loan out if comms are needed. Driver skill is fair to middlin'.

Roger that. I'll PM my number to anyone who wants it. For now, @Bodie the Dog can run point unless we run to Sterling Lake.

I spent 7 years in the Arcata bottoms. Mad River Beach FTW!
We could include Sterling as part of the trip, without even having to backtrack.
I'm missing my radios. Anyone got a set? Nice to have one for the front, and back vehicles, so we can move over when faster traffic overtakes us. I probably live closer than anyone, so you guys set the schedule.

Yes. As you exit the freeway, you'll see the gas station with a lower parking lot below it, next to the aspens. Typically big rigs and OHV clubs park here. I'll be parked where a dirt road takes off from the lower lot into the aspens, clearly visible. If I'm not at my truck, I'm probably walking around in the trees looking for carvings. We have some cool, old arborglyphs in this area, but I've never checked that particular grove.

Ok, who's in? Send me your phone number and I'll reply with mine, and start getting us all connected.

We're meeting at 9am in the lower parking lot, exit 165 at Cisco Grove.

I'm hoping for a pretty flexible schedule, not just driving, but checking out the local sights and each other's trucks. This is how we learn which mods are good. Plan on a full day in the mountains, so bring food and drink, bad weather clothes, maybe even a swimsuit. Of course you can leave at anytime, and we will be pretty close to Interstate 80. We don't have a firm route, but can change our destinations as conditions warrant. There's still a crazy amount of ice on the North slopes, but a week of hot weather will take care of that. The trails vary in this area from fuck-up-your-truck Fordyce Trail, to easy dirt road, so you can manage your risk level appropriately.

I'll send you a map when I get your number.

    Regards,
