Time to switch from work (Avalon) to play. Looking for a light duty off road 4Runner - combo paved & dirt roads, forestry roads for photography hobby. Thinking Gen 3 or 4. Used as 2nd vehicle - suggestions?

Arizona, as well as NM, and Utah have some amazing, off the beaten path places to explore, so you might find yourself wanting a bit more than "light duty". Just sayin'.;)

    Good luck in your search.

Not necessarily. I think any 4wd 4 Runner will work for what you want. I was just taking a good natured swipe at your LIGHT DUTY comment. I just do a lot of photography in New Mexico, Southern Colorado, Az. and Utah, and when you get out there shooting, you will always find some off the track place that you just have to go check out and photograph, so you might find yourself in some not so light duty situations.

I have a 5th generation that is probably overkill, as I have a lift, upgraded tires and a winch, but we have been stuck more than once without the winch and digging out is no fun. We find some pretty rough terrain, especially in the Colorado mountains where some extra ground clearance is needed as well.
