Anyone put an after market remote start/alarm on the 2017/18 4R yet? If you did does it cut off like it does on the Tacomas when you open the doors?

Had mine installed at the dealer when I bought it new. Mine doesn't cut out when opening the doors I specifically asked them that before buying I didn't want that security feature.

You should have some type of cutoff for safety and security reasons. When you start it with a remote and no cutoff it can be stolen or a 12 yr. old can accidentally put it into gear. Mine shuts off when you depress the brake to put into gear, no door cutoff. That is of course if you don't put the key in.

As far as I know, the only one that shuts down on opening the door is with a 'smart'key. Any with a physical key for the ignition do shut down the engine when opening the door. I have a 12Volt.Solutions.com in my 2015 LTD and it super easy to install, no wire cutting, splicing just 3 plugs, one under the steering column, one to the body ECU and one to the OBDII plug. All these just go between the sockets and factory plugs. Also available is cell phone app device and $29 yr. connection fee. Works with IOS and Android. They do have systems for 'H" and "G" keys that do not shut down. Check their web site. 12volt.Solutions.com

Check out www.accessorides.com they offer a full plug and play for the 4Runner, doesnt involve any splicing or wire taps, from my understanding its the only full plug and play kit for our trucks on the market, they are a vendor on another forum im on and offer discount promo codes. Fast shipping and i got the cell phone package, its awesome, couldnt be happier. Hope this helps man :)

What brand? That sounds like a good set up. Does exactly what we want (and not what we don't).

I ordered the Accessorides remote start as well. I haven't installed it yet though. Is it pretty straight forward? I read the instructions, but it mentions something about an OEM hood pin (?)...I'm honestly not sure if I have that. My 4runner is a 2015 SR5 with a "G" key.

Now I'm having an issue with my remote start (really the problem is with the carlink app). My accessorides unit works fine via the key fob, but I also opted for the carlink setup that is now not working at all since the latest "update". Every time I open the app on my phone it crashes within 2 seconds. I've emailed carlink concerning this (multiple times) and I still have not received a response, nor a solution. I guess I don't really need the carlink app, but the point is that I paid extra for it, so I intend for it to work. Anyone else having a problem with this?...Again, it worked fine until the app updated.

    ***Update***
The app was updated again today and now works as intended

Still pondering this.. called my local custom stereo shop yesterday.. can get a viper remote start installed out the door for 400.00 and comes with a lifetime warranty via viper and the company that installs it- of which they’ve been in business since 1978
