If I have a remote start installed in my 2019 4Runner by someone else, is my warranty still valid?

Unless it’s related to the work they did yes. Generally it’s fine unless they buthered the wiring, which unfortunately isn’t uncommon.

sorry that you made a very bad decision to install a remote starter from a aftermarket company.
many have had vehicle problems alarms and remote starters installed by non OEM companies.. dealership most likely will say its your problem .. many installs do not use the proper connectors when wiring it up then a total mess.

I spent the $ and had it installed when new at the dealer for this reason. It was like 150.00 off to install at delivery if you take it home new and literally do the remote a week later (by the selling dealership) you don't get the 150.00 off. That's what they told me at the time.

Not sure why warranty is such a confusing thing.

Unless dealer can prove your aftermarket stuff is the cause of whatever problem you have it will be covered. You cannot just lose your warranty completely just because of a remote start.

I haven’t had a remote start installed yet. The dealership wanted $499 to add it and didn’t seem to want to bother with it the day I bought it. The price was too high anyway. I think it was my “sign”!

have the dealership do it . try to get the price down . if the wiring is messed with by a aftermarket installer it can be a bad day with electrical problems.

The good thing about a Toyota dealer doing it is it mostly like won't void any warranties.

Having an aftermarket shop do it and having them mess up the electrical can be a problem.

I think I’ll try to get the price down, but I don’t think I intimidate them much

I agree that having the dealer do it would be best. if you do go aftermarket. Do your research and make sure the shop you are going to has a good name. My first car had electrical work done at a cheap radio shop. What a mess that was. My alarm use to go off all the time while I was driving. Took it to the dealership and they showed me the problem those guys from the radio shop left my wiring looking like a rats nest. Avoid cheap places!
