So Im trying to figure this out for the wifes 2008. Rear is toast, and not looking to have it move the earth, but its shot. On a budget and found some Blaupunkts, MB Quarts, JBLs, but all are singles and 4ohm.

    So I found this:

Tailgate 8" DVC Sub Speaker Specs
--According to Toyota documents this sub is powered by 2 channels. Each one operates at 2 ohms

--Amp supplies a total of 110 watts to both channels so 55 watts RMS at 2 ohms per channel

I dont understand the two channel things. I mean thats the standard amp, but is one channel unused? Can they both be used to power the same speaker?

Help and advice would be appreciate. Thanks!!!!!!!:)

DVC stands for dual voice coil. Basically they stack two speaker magnets onto the thing, hook up both using separate channels, and they act together on the one cone, but are wired separately.

If you're replacing it with a single voice coil sub you'd just use 1 of the 2 channels. The amp *should* be fine to handle a 4ohm load, but it'll be quieter (if they were the same sensitivity, but they probably won't be so it may end up being louder after all...)

Thanks! Ive hear of putting a 4ohm resistor to deal with the 2ohm/4ohm issue. I dont quite get that part.

So here is what Im looking at - full speaker replacement, a lift, and performance goodies coming. So economy for know - may replace amp later too.
