I'm considering getting these sliders. Those of you who have these with the filler plates, how is the grip especially in the rain? I wish RCI had an option of Line-X or some sort of grip tape type of texture for the filler plates. Gotta make sure Mom & Dad don't slip when they visit.

I'm planning to get the same ones, I was wondering the same and also if they stick out enough to operate as a decent step.

ToyTec 2.5" lift with RCI/filler plate sliders. I intentionally step over them, but wife uses them as a step with no issues. She said she hadn't noticed them being slippery, but followed up with a "I know there's no grippies (might want to Webster that) and act accordingly".

They fall into that "there if you need them" (as a step) category without being "no choice". They do tuck in pretty well.

I’ve used mine as a step while it was snowing, and there was no issue with grip on the powder coating. As far as whether or not they’re good as a step, I think most people visualize you’d use them like an actual step with your foot perpendicular to the vehicle, but in reality your foot really needs to be sideways to comfortably enter the vehicle. My foot may bump the rocker sometimes while using them, but I find there’s plenty width for my foot. I prefer to just hop over them thought. My wife prefers the step because she’s short.

I bought some 4" clear plastic grip tape for my (not RCI) sliders... so far I've only used it in the tub. It does work well there, although it yellowed a bit.

If you want to add grip tape, get something that's pretty thin, not clear plastic, and mount it along the top edge to avoid the scraping of legs, clothes and shoes. A half inch strip will be more than sufficient, and will probably look rather stylish if kept straight enough.

The grip is not an issue. The RCI sliders do not offer the same depth in the front like a running board to step up. But it can still be used with part of the foot if you are in decent physical shape. With the kickout in the rear you have a good step to access the roof and rear seats.

You could get some wing walk paint used on aircraft and coat the area that you wish to use as the step.

I bought the bare metal and painted.
Not slippery even with smooth paint.
Not much of a step for the front but the dogs use them for getting into the rear.

I just ordered mine! They should arrive a week or two after my truck does, so after my kids don't get a step for a couple weeks, it'll be a definite improvement

Interesting never heard of wing walk before. Have you used it before? Easy to apply? Is it similar to Line-X/bed liner texture?

RCI aluminum skids (front, trans, TC, and gas), RCI steel sliders 20 degree no plates with kickout, Treaty Oak recovery points, LFD stainless crossbars, Greenlane ladder, Toyo Open Country AT III, Bilstein 5100s, OME (front 2” lift) and Eibach (rear 1”lift) coils
If you are using the sliders as a step, then using a bedliner may be ideal. I have the RCI 20 degree sliders with no plates. I don’t use these as a step except when loading my roof rack. With this setup I would advise to NOT use anything abrasive like that because you will rub your legs raw in the summer if you wear shorts. I used hammered Rustoleum matte black paint and they came out real good. Rattle can paint makes for easy touch ups. Bed liner tends to rip and chip in chunks and touch ups are a little more work and not as clean loooking. Personally, a good paint job properly primed will do the trick at a fraction of the cost

I have the RCI 0 degree sliders with the step plates. I ordered in bare metal and painted with Raptor Liner spray on bed liner. The Raptor Liner provides a good grip but the sliders are marginal as steps in front due to the width. The bump outs in the rear make reasonable good steps for the rear passengers…

    Cheers,
    Bob

Why not RSG sliders with the grip top plate? No tape needed.

As others have stated, the sliders are not really wide enough to be like a running board step but they do work. I’ve used my RCI sliders in the rain and snow with zero slip issues. The holes have the edges turned up and create plenty of grip. The service at RCI is also top notch. Jason at RSG is also amazing. You can’t go wrong with either slider.

    I used Rust Oleum spray-on non-skid spray.

Works well, and after getting the snot kicked out of it by use and rocks, just re-spray them and they look brand-new.

Time between sprays was about six years, including use in Minnesota and New York during winters.

That said, the wing-walk stuff looks cool!

My sliders are ShrockWorks with the step plates. I hardly use them, but the Spousal Unit does. In my eyes they keep the rocks off the rocker panels first, and give me a step up to access the roof rack second.

I suggest you live with your sliders for a little while before trying a grip pier coating or tape. Those coatings can be stubborn when it’s time to clean them. I have RSG sliders with the non-grip top plate and slippage hasn’t been an issue.

I would have to put a tape measure down to see how far they stick out. I installed mine by myself with kdss - it wasn't easy and would recommend a friend if you have one. Apparently I don't :(

Practically, I'm just under 6' and don't use them as a step (I'm lifted about 2.5-3" with 285/70s). My shorter "spousal unit" uses them to get in front because she hates my "monster machine". I've noticed with her small feet she turns her foot parallel to the vehicle because it isn't wide in the front. My 6 yr old daughter uses the kickout as a step for the rear without issue but I usually hold her hand getting in/out when it's wet for safety reasons.

Edit - that being said, I've used smaller front and kickout to get to the roof rack and don't have issues. The front isn't wide but (at least when it's dry) is enough to step on perpendicular to the vehicle to reach the roof rack if you have strong toes

I have 5 degrees. It's dark so hard to see the full tube but here are front/back pics from the rocker panel with doors open:
