Hello, since new, I’ve had a noise coming from the passenger dash, near the air vent, on a 2022. It sounds like plastic on plastic or plastic on styrofoam. It’s only when I go over bumps. Can’t easily recreate without driving. I’ve tried the mudflap screws as mentioned here too. And…of course, each time I go to the dealer it won’t do it. I’m losing my mind. Any ideas?!?

Maybe its the glove box? I haven't experienced this in my 4R, but my Xterra did that. I used some small stick-on felt casters on the inside of the glove box door and it tightened up the fitment, and eliminated the noise.

Thanks! I’ve poked and prodded everything, even the glovebox, but couldn’t recreate. I’ll get some felt and see what shakes when I drive…hopefully nothing LOL. Thank you!

Same here. Got that noise but no idea where it is coming from. I just know it’s somewhere on the dashboard

    some possibilities:
There is a small plastic trim piece outside on the lower windshield on the passenger side. Take a water bottle along. It makes a tapping/rattle noise on the glads when it gets dirty. When it makes the noise, pour some water over it to see if it stops. If yes, then hose out that area real good.

The hood latch can dry out. It rubs on the catch and makes an injured duck sound. A tiny dab of grease fixes that.

The passenger mudflap…behind it, sometimes rocks or debris can get caught there and be heard inside the vehicle as if the noise was inside.

I have a similar issue on the Taco and I think is coming around from the speaker side. It also does it more during cold months. During the summer I hear nothing. It is annoying and the dealer doesn't know either.

I will check everything that you mentioned. Mine sounds like a plastic clip when i get into some not so smooth asphalt road.

I think you might be owed some money or major cred here!!!. I just washed it and prodded it and drove around the block and it didn’t make noise. I’ll keep messing with it and report back after my commute tmw. Thank you so much!

Also try vacuuming the front edge of the dash with a crevice fitting. I get squeaks after leaving windows open after wheeling in dusty places. Dislodging and cleaning the dust seams to work then. YMMV.

Lol, i hope that was it. But yeah, between the splash guards and the other things I mentioned, seems like 95 percent of 4runner noises are covered.

I had the same squeaks on a new 22.
It was coming from the passenger air vent.

Take out glove box, take out vent, and lined the mating surfaces of the vent with masking tape.
    Its quiet now.

There is air conditioning filter inside the dash, maybe it's got loose of something got in it, after a summer I got lot's of stuff there, like dried leaves which can sounds like a faint rattle. There are some wires under the passenger side dash, maybe something got loose there. Another thing is that squeaks might be deceiving, once I was sure that my sunroof squeaks, but it was a water bottle in cup holder : )

No, sorry. There are videos on how to remove the glove box. That's 90% of the work. Vent pulls straight out when glove box is removed.

Alrighty I’m going to have to try to remove the glovebox and vent then. The noise came back so it was just luck on the other attempts. It’s gotta be this. It’s making me nuts. Thanks all!

Did you even try looking up 4runner glove box removal?

Was experiencing this noise after an extremely dusty day on the trails yesterday. Tried the water on the plastic trim on the lower part of the windshield, although I did it on the the entire length of it. That did the trick. No sound on the drive back, especially over any bumps!
Thanks to McSpazatron for posting the suggestion!

The passenger side rattle on my 2023 ORP goes away for 5 minutes or so if I spray my windscreen or pour water in that area, so pretty sure it's the above... Thanks very much @McSpazatron for identifying as it had been driving me crazy for months and my dealer was no help...

Would anyone be able to help with some more detail on exactly where and how I need to hose to fix? Apologies if this should be obvious but I'm a bit reluctant to spray a power hose so close up to the windscreen trims etc! Any photos/videos or tips very much appreciated!

just use a garden hose, you probably don’t need to use lots of pressure. Just give the 4runner a good soapy wash in that area.
