Rapture lights? I didn't even know that was a thing.

Is that so Jesus knows you're one of the good ones?

I don’t have rapture lights on my truck. to me they look out of place, especially the yellow ones. But I do see how others are drawn to them. Personally, if I were to get some .. whites ones would be my choice.

I know this is more than the $50 you want to spend, but I would definitely do more than estetics for a bit more: https://store.ijdmtoy.com/products/led-lightbar-kit-35-994
This will also be a functional mode, if you do drive on country roads at night or severe weather.
You wont look "cool" on the road, but the road will look cool at night on the trails :)

Technically illegal. Well actually, the entire premise of using identification markers for aesthetics is also illegal. There are a lot of rules governing legal lights on cars and trucks, even for these little guys. They were added to the Raptor because they are required by law, not to "look cool".

    1. Identification marker lights are to be used on vehicles that are over 80 inches wide. So by adding them to a Toyota, you're already misrepresenting the size of your vehicle on the road at night.
    2. Center markers MUST be amber. So white lights are just illegal accent lighting, like neon underglow from Fast n' Furious. The law also specifies that there must be THREE center markers. So putting on 2 or 4 is also illegal.
    3. Wide trucks are also required to have corner identification markers in pairs, front and rear, white and red respectively. These are to be mounted to represent the widest dimension of the vehicle.

While you'll probably never get busted for these, know that a cop could decide to ticket you for them because they're technically an infraction. Personally, I tend to agree with those who say they're played out. You're biting the style from a cooler truck, and everyone already has them (so they don't really make your 4Runner stand out the way you think they do). But in the end it's up to the owner, as this thread has pointed out.

I wouldn't recommend using a light bar on the road or in inclement weather, especially one using poorly optimized optics like the one in that link. The pattern will be too scattered and reflect a ton of light from rain/snow/fog back into your eyes, which will work against your vision. For bad weather I recommend a quality pair of J583 compliant fog lamps, and currently the best lights are the SS3 from Diode Dynamics.

Similarly, several companies also offer SAE J581 compliant lights that are legal to use as auxiliary high beam lamps. Rigid, KC, Diode Dynamics are just a few. I would opt for those because you can use them on and off road legally, the same as your high beams.

I put this set of Diode SS3 driving lights in my front grill (pro, 4000K color) and control the relay with an SPDT switch. Low turns them on anytime, high is tapped into the high beam circuit so I can toggle them with the factory high beam stalk (and of course, center is off).

These are way better than Raptor lights.

Those are already more expensive. Even a bad light bar will help tremendously better on a dark road than raptor lights. Cost is also a thing. I personally don’t like the cutouts, it looks cheap.

I think we should all refrain from dark humor and sarcasm in an online forum. We don't know each other, we don't know understand each other, we can't read tone and subtext. If any of those jokes had been made while shooting the shit over beers, I'm sure we would all be laughing our asses off.

Lastly, let's be honest, we are all freaking vain about our rigs. Most of the mods we all pursue are just aesthetics. My wife makes fun of me everyday she compares it to her putting on make up. Plus she also says I work on the car all the time and it still looks the same! Am I being cheesy? Who the fuk cares?! I am having fun

I agree, to an extent. But, anyone without thick skin and a sense of humor should also probably stay out of online forums.

I disagree about most mods being aesthetic, though. Maybe I am the exception here.. :notsure:

I’m with you, I can honestly say the extent of purely cosmetic modifications I’ve done is removing the emblems on the C pillars.

I should have said "not performance related". Even when it's performance related, at some point, it becomes way over the top. I mean, the moment your rig becomes comparable to a humvee, you know you went a lil too far. The moment your rig becomes bright enough to light up a football stadium, you know you went too far.

I put amber raptor lights on mine because I wanted to be seen more in the Bay Area foggy mornings, plus, I like the look of it. I got them on Amazon for around your price and I love them.

Also, I would never buy a Ford Raptor over a Toyota 4Runner. I like my cars to be reliable and outlast me. :bananadance:

I can agree that some mods are over the top. But, I can only think of a few that are not performance related. And, "raptor lights" are at the top of that list.

What other nonperformance mods are you referring to?

I could have worded that better. I'm just saying that online communities are generally full of trash talking. It should be taken with a grain of salt.

However, I think personal attacks are completely unnecessary and unacceptable. There's a distinct difference between poking fun at someone's choice of modifications VS insulting them personally.

There are ways to be seen without imitating a vehicle you say you would never buy.

I just think it's cheesy to try to make a small Toyota look like a big Ford. Especially if you're going to pick on them for reliability. Why imitate something while making fun of it? It doesn't make sense.

I think Raptors are cool. I just don't want one, so I wouldn't try to imitate one.

I'm not imitating an entire vehicle simply by adding lights to my grill. I just like the look of the lights in my grill. By adding lights to a grill, does not constitute trying to turn it into a Raptor. That's a ridiculous comparison.

My best friend has had two Raptors, which I enjoyed driving, however, I would never buy it.

Apparently some of you put way too much emphasis on a little set of lights.

Well, in my experience, it has made a difference. People have also positively commented on the lights, so they are noticed.

If not imitating a Raptor, then why call them "raptor" lights? Why not just call them wide vehicle indicator lights?

Was going off the title of the thread, but cool, you win. "I installed my Seven Sparta 4 PCS LED Amber lights with Fuse" is what I should have written so some random guy on the internet doesn't think I am trying to turn my 4R into a Raptor.

Imitating something and trying to actually turn one vehicle into another are 2 different things.

I guess I just don't get the idea of trying to look like something else and then making fun of that same thing.

    But, it's your money.

Holy cow, man. I took one jab at the Raptor (with sarcasm, as a joke), then actually said I enjoyed driving it but didn't want to own one. Seriously, get over it. I typically enjoy your posts but it seems you have taken a slight jab at Raptors as some kind of personal insult or something.

I like my lights because I like the way they look. I have never compared my lights to imitating a Raptor. I think it's perfectly acceptable to add lights to a vehicle. I don't even think they are the same shape as the Raptor. If that is not how you see it, then thats okay.

I'm not offended. I don't believe I need to get over anything. If my view on Raptor lights bothers you, that's fine.

You admit that you like the Raptor, so that's a little different. I'm mostly poking fun of guys who will call Ford garbage and then turn around and throw amber "raptor" lights in their grill.

As we discussed earlier, cosmetic mods are all about personal taste. I actually think they look good!

Sorry if it came out the wrong way.
