    Hey guys/girls,
New member here. I’m looking for some advice. I currently have a 2000 4Runner Limited with 300,000 miles. I love it, but it’s time to upgrade. I’m looking at 2 2010 4Runners at the moment. One is an SR5 4wd with 150,000 miles, and the other is a 2010 Limited with 180,000 miles. They’re both the same price. I definitely want 4wd. I know the Limited has all time 4wd while the SR5 has part-time. Obviously, I’ll make sure the 4wd works on the SR5 if I test drive it. It’s at a dealership, so there’s no way for me to contact the owner to see if they actually engaged the 4wd every month. For those of you who have the part time 4wd, have you had any issues with it seizing? I’ve watched a few videos that said it’s a common problem if you don’t engage it every month or so. Would the Limited all time 4wd be more reliable/dependable? I’m not planning on doing any rock crawling. I do go camping and kayaking, and some of the trails can get pretty rough. Thanks for any feedback!

I have the same 4runner for the last 26 years and have only engaged the 4wd once every 2 to 4 months when I can remember to do it and have never had an issue with it. During a test drive, take it on a straight road and engage it and see what it does.

Mine's a 2013, had 79k when I bought it two years ago, at 111k now. I highly doubt that the original owner ever messed with the four-wheel drive, and I certainly don't adhere to doing that every month. Always works fine when I need it.

Maybe this is more important with the models that have the rotary switch, but the 2010 SR5 will have the lever.

Thanks! That’s what I really like about the 2010 SR5. I’d much rather have the 4wd be mechanical instead of electronic.

Same! Was a big selling point for me. I feel it has to be a little bit more reliable, and it's also so satisfying to use, LOL.
