There is no doubt it has the ability to be an amazing place, I still prefer Maine, got mountains, ocean and lakes all with in a days drive from anywhere in Maine. Oh and it’s cold and that keeps the bugs and rif raf down

    That's reasonable

But to be fair, my post was factual, there was no political overtones to it. The "liberal" reference speaks to a mindset, not a political affiliation...

Granted it was off topic as hell, but somehow the thread migrated to it in a manner that seemed to make sense... #2 JIS screwdriver to aftermarket wheels to the death of western civilization....

I did try that, didn't work. The set screw from the handle blocks the other screw from going in enough to get the leverage needed. If you get that first screw off, then yes you can do it like the manual states, but you still have to get that first screw off.

I will admit when I first read this thread I thought pfft - who doesn't know that or keep additional tools in the truck. But really it's one of those things you just don't think of until it's too late. Good on the OP for bringing this up.

    Here’s my little added tool.
For jacking on the round rear axle I got this “jack adapter” from Land Cruiser Products, for a better grip.
Jack Adapters - Land Cruiser Products - LCP
I painted mine white to make it more visible.

Somebody replied to you that fluid film isn't necessary, but if you are in the northeast or anywhere else where they use road salt, I strongly disagree with that. Fluid film the hell out of the drop mechanism, because chances are if you don't when you need it you won't be able to get it down. I live in New England, I haven't tried getting my spare down yet, but I have a bad feeling I won't be able to. It's a 2013 that I bought used last year. It's on my to-do list. Planning on buying tires soon, and I may buy a matching spare, so I'll do it then.

I don't know what fluid film is. However I have had my chain lift freeze up on my Tundra after several years without lube or exercise.
Now I make sure to drop the spare and lube the mechanism once a year on all vehicles.

Yes, that is what I was referring to was the drop mechanism, not the jack itself. We are 18 months in & I will break the jack seal & drop the spare & lube anything I see that moves & could bind!
I founf Fluid Film last year on here & it kept my salt spreader lubed & running easier than any other year. It truly is phenomenal stuff! I plan on undercoating the T4R frame before this winter. I ran into family health problems last year...
    @Starr , I hope this helps. Oriley's has it.

I used the tools provided to lower my spare tire before doing fluid film. I didn't need any extra tools. You can use one piece that has a square hole to loosen the phillips head screw. It may have a phillips head, but it's square on the outside. They could have never put a phillips cross in it and it would have worked with everything provided.

Lowered mine today with tools provided, no issues. I flipped it over and put it back up. I did notice on the metal piece that goes into the wheel center, that the pin that goes into wheel stud hole, has a hole in it for a lock if your worried about someone stealing it. I use a cable and a padlock myself.

Yeah it’s a little confusing on the website. The one that has the shorter post at one end. Listed as the 4Runner/GX470 1 1/2 inch jackpost. Item number JK 100.

One roll of 100 mile an hour tape and a round or two of bailing wire. Maybe a tie wrap or two. Ya never know.

    I think @A&P got it.

Also, WD40 and duct tape are good to have handy. :)

Yes, what @A&P said, and @Thatbassguy and I’d include a pocket knife, a few flashlights, jumper cables or jump start pack, extra fuses, a block of wood (about 10x10 inches x 1 1/2 inches) for a taller stable base if jacking on dirt or a soft road shoulder. Add a small tarp to lay on in wet weather for tire changing and some gloves.

The tools listed on this thread are perfect! On the flip side... you can carry all the tools in the world, but you'll have to know what to do with them. For the things not covered in the owners manual, a Chilton or equivalent repair manual might serve you well. You can page through it and see what certain mechanical probs you feel confident fixing etc., just a suggestion.

Exactly, while we don't carry all the stuff listed, we do carry just enough to get out of a bind, when all else fails make sure your phone has plenty of contacts in it! BTW- did you catch some Fl. Key West Snapper, they are a great eating fish, good luck!
