I own a 1997 4Runner SR5 2WD. For the past few months, my power steering has been leaking. Only recently it got to the point that I have to put power steering in it before I drive it every time. I just got under my car to see where the leak was coming from. I don’t know very much about cars at all but I’m trying to learn and fix mine.

When I got under it, I noticed that it only leaks badly whenever I turn left. It drips constantly even when it’s off- but when i turn it on and turn left, it really just dumps fluid out. when i turn right barely anything comes out. now, i don’t know what it’s called but there is a type of hose that runs to the front left wheel underneath and there’s a hole in it. i’ve attached a picture of the hose i’m talking about. Is this where my leak is coming from? and if so what would i need to replace to stop the entire leak?

like i said i’m only just now starting to learn more about this car so any helpful comments would be greatly appreciated. :)

Looks like simple hose replacement. I would get a Haynes repair manual though....

Your power steering rack is leaking. Needs seal. Or replace with new or rebuilt unit. They are very accessible on the 4runner
