I've finally upgraded from an '05 4th to '17 5th and I am a little worried that there is an engine issue. I still have my 4th and I swear it's upper rpm power delivery is crisper and more available than my new baby.
Did Toyota focus more on low end torque within newer 4.0 and I'm just in a transition period getting accustomed to the new delivery or is there an issue?
    Please help.

    Distraught father.

Welcome, i have a 17 SR-5 and do not have the problem you describe but there is a lag when applying the pedal at take off. Some folks purchased the Pedal Commander to over come that. https://www.pedalcommander.com/

Yes the 4.0 has some low end compared to other models. It's one of Toyotas world engines, meaning they use it world wide. That is saying something. It's a great engine. You don't need a pedal commander but some like it. I saved some money and just push the gas pedal down harder when I feel the need. YMMV

Also try a fuel injector cleaner like Amsoil P.I. Your used vehicle has probably never had the fuel system cleaned. Whatever you choose, poor it into a full tank and hammer the vehicle for the entire tank of gas

Thanks everyone. My imagination was running wild like the salesman was mad that I made him put the spare on since the original was losing air, maybe he over revved the engine before delivery n I just didn't notice until I got home.
