i originally wanted the 2021 LED/halogen headlights but good used sets are rare considering the short production run. when a good set hits they move real fast. i was starting to see 2022+ sets more often so i felt compelled to move on a great deal for a ’22 set. not my original target but considering what’s out there along with retail pricing, i felt it was a reasonable compromise.

this video seems to confirm some of the flaws that are commonly discussed with drop in LEDs. was that your intention?

I was happy how these perform like my stock LED housing but brighter on this rural road with uphill and down hills. I'm absolutely happy to learn about the flaws. Thank you :):)

Edit - if you could comment also on the video others who are not in this forum also can learn if you don't mind duplicate work :)

I have WAY more DD light bars and pods than needed but I did the H9 swap for headlights. Holy crap are they bright. I even bet my mechanic buddy that I didn’t need the LED’s he had in his Ford and my light pattern had a greater throw than his.

Those are the Lasfit LA Plus?

I’ve heard good things about the LA series ability to maintain light output over time (better than most other manufacturers), maintaining over 94% output after being on 27 minutes.

Have you checked to see how the light output hold up after being on for 4-6 hours?

Ha ha we are watching the same channel for light bulbs. As said on the chat we had a little ago sadly I won't be doing any long drives for a looong time. :(

You get a better throw with H9’s than drop in LED’s. And it’s a graded pattern that fades. So you’re able to have some time to react to animals and such. Additionally, your pupils won’t constrict from the really bright light up close, which will further inhibit your vision and ability to see contrast further out in the blackness.

Not a big deal in town, but on the highway at speed, it really makes a difference.

The AcDelco (Osram) H9 bulbs I ordered came in today, and I installed them. The extra tab was easy to remove on them. The passenger side was a little trouble to install, but the drivers side was a huge pain. I also had to trim one of the tabs on the base before it would fit. Not sure I would want to go through all that again.

I won’t get to test them on a dark strip till tomorrow. I will be able to report back then.

When I first installed my H9’s my mind was blown. They were sooo bright compared to H11.

So, I tried the H9 bulbs last night, and initially I am not impressed. I think it could be a headlight alignment issue. Tonight I am going to try to align them. The only problem is it is a little difficult to find a flat space with a wall around where I live to be able to do alignment.

I’ve read that if the metal tab isn’t sufficiently trimmed, it may not seat correctly. Could be source of a problem.

H9 works great. I've been running the same pair for 2.5 years and more than 20k miles. They are better than some OEM LED systems I've experienced on other cars. If your 4Runner came with H9s you'd probably never have felt the need for an upgrade. Yes, the OEM LEDs will last longer, but the bright white color can be harder on the eyes. I've found that combining H9s with the OEM LED fogs (less than $200 online) produces a more than acceptable result. And I really REALLY hated the stock H11s.

A friend mechanic recommend the LA series lights due to good maintaining light output. We'll start the mod projects on my uncle's 4Runner after mounting the new tires from 4Wheelonline this weekend. He sometimes patrol at night so needs a consistent lighting.
