anyone know of an upgrade for the backup camera? I’m not impressed with the clarity of it at all.. it’s a far cry crappier than the ones my previous Tacoma’s had.

Also, not sure why but I think it’s weord my 2018 offroad runner doesn’t have the little guide lines on the screen. My 2015 offroad Tacoma has them and have a much more clear camera..

That’s pretty much my only gripe with the runner- love it other than that (which is a pretty minor issue imo)

I have the lines on mine. Does yours show up in the same screen as the navigation?

Hey scottalot maybe there’s something wrong or damaged in your camera software. I have a 2018 ORP and the camera is better than my 2015 Tacoma and it has the guide lines in it. Ask your dealer to check it out while it’s under warranty.

Hey @scottalot why Is this in 4th gen?

Have you cleaned the camera? The back hatch tends to collect a lot of road debris (inherent to SUV’s) and it collects all over the back, including the camera.

My 4R has guide lines when the reverse camera pops up.

Is a bit odd. When I clean the crud off, it's clear as hell. I also have the lines. Different colors for closeness and all.
Adding the maestro unit, I now even have ones that bend, when i turn. Not OEM, but the parking width lines, and color warning was there with OEM gear, and was/is hella clear,.. when it dont have muck all over it. Which for me, can be common.

    Yes it sure does
I’m thinking it may be damaged, definitely gonna talk to service

No idea why, I blame bad eyesight and fat fingers  maybe my eyes are bad and not the camera lol

I have cleaned it and had no luck, it’s very hazy and there’s definitely no lines

On a whim I went out and checked the system to see if there was a setting that you could set to enable the grid lines. I didn’t see anything nor did I see anything in the manual so...at this point I think a trip to the dealer is necessary.

However... @scottalot what navigation system do you have? It might be an option that’s included with certain systems but not others.

My 2018 TRD ORP with Nav is just like this. Maybe it’s a faulty head unit

I think there are 3 different jab unit options available for the 2018 4Runners. I’m not sure if they all offer the backup grid lines or only specific ones do. I googled the shit out of it and only found one real answer. Some dude with a 2014 Sienna did not have the grid lines and his research lead him to it being related to the optioned nav unit that was installed in it.

I’m going in for a new windshield, different topic, next weekend. Gonna get with them while I’m there to see if something’s wrong.

I’m a big fan of looking back too but I also use the camera. Love that thing for trying to get close to stuff or for lining up a trailer tongue
