The reason I'm doing this poll is because I kind of feel bad for buying such an expensive vehicle, honestly speaking, I do not have the net worth to deserve this vehicle. I hope I am not alone :D

They say we shouldn't buy a new vehicle if the value of that new vehicle is more than one-third of our annual income. In my case, it is like 60+% of my annual income :(

That's what loans are for, though!

If it weren't for loans, I'd be driving a piece of shit, probably.

But hey, I didn't spend 50 Grand on some stupid BMW to impress people. 5th gen 4Runner is a solid long lasting vehicle.

I've never owned a vehicle I couldn't pay cash for. I have zero bills besides my mortgage and auto insurance. It's pretty awesome.

As of today... zero. Woulda been starting out at ~$55k which is "decent" for this area... interview went great... then the interviewer called the wrong supervisor at my contractor. Dude lost his shit, told some kind of lies (no idea what) so that I lost the machinist prospect, then he fires me out of spite. How dare I leave the dangerous, hazardous waste cleanup job for $11/hr.! He'd show me!

So, looks like I *will* be living in my 4Runner, because another side effect of living in this shit hole is that it has left my rig too ugly to sell.
Thanks for the data-mining poll, gave me a place to rant since we don't have a "Bad News and ONLY Bad News" thread lol.

I know it is very dumb, but I promise you, I'm not buying another vehicle until 2040 at least. I have no debt except the $20,000 that I borrowed for this 4Runner, and I put down $30,000. Took me like 6 or 7 years to save $30,000. I couldn't wait any longer because Toyota was killing the 5th generation

For once I thought I should have paid cash for an FJ Cruiser, but then no, it's hard to trust used cars. Not many people baby their cars, so it is hard to trust used cars

I wouldn’t feel bad if I was you. Not for a vehicle this practical and durable, with a relatively low cost of ownership — especially if you don’t drive a ton of miles (the cost of gas). A financial planner would have advised against it, but life’s no fun if never do anything risky. Plus, like you said, it’s not as if you blew this amount on a poser-mobile. Let alone a poser-mobile that can’t tow, carry a bunch of cargo, be an emergency place to bed down, go off road, is bad in the snow, and costs a fortune to maintain.

Just make the payments and enjoy. Try to pay it off a bit quicker if you get some extra cash (and don’t also have credit card or similar debt — in that case pay that shit first!)

Driving a vehicle I can't afford is pretty awesome, too. :D

I'm not saying that being responsible isn't smarter, though. I'm just not patient enough.

Not many people in the trades are making $120K+ per year. For an electrician in my area, $60-70K is pretty damn good. And, there aren't many $20K vehicles that I would be satisfied with.

I also don't have any bad habits. And I don't wear fancy stuff, I don't eat out much, I work hard and come home and go to sleep. My Samsung phone is 6 years old and my Toshiba laptop is 11 years old. They work perfectly fine, so why waste money. I also wear my 14 year old jacket still :D
This Forerunner is the biggest purchase I've ever done in my life and ever will

I understand that, thats why props to everyone that does.

I usually don't look at annual salary as the number. If you can afford the monthly then by all means go for it.

Ahh, I took your previous post as sarcasm. Sorry for assuming. I get what you're saying now. :) I think we're on the same page.

It's definitely worth budgeting for, in my opinion. I live in a small, (relatively) inexpensive place so I can afford a nice car and to travel. I figure spend your money on what matters to you.

Kinda similar here. I don't smoke, no cable. When I do travel, It's usually camping. I used to pack lunches, too, but I've been slacking. I do enjoy a fancy dinner out, occasionally.

How much someone wants to go into debt is none of my business. But if someone tells me they got couple maxed out credit cards I'll give um my 2 cents.

I think budgeting everything and making sure that money doesn't leak, that is the best strategy. I mean one could make 60k and would be doing all right, while the other guy is making 150k and he's broke lol. I fitted my 4Runner monthly payment into my budget by leaving my studio and moving into a house with roommates. Problem solved :D

By the way, by electrician if you mean that you are an electrician, then my friend, sky is the limit for you. You could start your own little business and do really good, and probably hire more people.

I'm admittedly not the most responsible person with my money. But, I'll be tightening things up while I start working on my retirement plans. I got plenty of fun stuff to keep me entertained for now. Just need to freeze the credit cards in a block of ice for awhile.

I know the feeling about being irresponsible.
