I've used a a co2 tank. Air nozzle, run a die grinder, re inflate tires. Was pretty cool. Buddy of mine used a small lb one, to run his air locker. Got many trips outta it before needing to refill. Which, brings me to the CON part of tanks. Refilling, while fairly cheap, could be a bit of a drag.. I used a soda plant/filler local...

well I will give my experience, Ive been wheeling now for about 15 years, Ive had CO2 and the air compressors. There is only 1 compressor that is as fast as a freshly filled CO2 tank, and that is the Oasis compressor but you're looking at aver $1000.. I promise it IS as fast as a CO2 tank, we tested it side by side, with exact same tires/size at about 10,000 ft.
OK this is just my opinion, if you can do both, DO IT.... CO2 runs out, CO2 is FAST. BUT unless you have a Sifon tube installed in the bottle you will have to make sure the bottle/tank is standing upright when filling tires.
IIRC my sifon tube cost about $30 to have installed, nothing to bad but you're able to lay the bottle down and bolted never having to take the tank out. Really nice.
Once others see you have CO2 they will, ask if you will fill their tires lol.
Oh,, when you do run out of CO2 you will have to get it re-filled, thats money, also most place will just swap your tank, with a used tank. So if you decide to go this route, make sure you buy a used tank lol. UNLESS you find a place that will re-fill YOUR tank.

Compressors, well with a tank or two, they are just so convenient, you will never be without air.. right now Im running a viair with a 2.5G tank and the tank is not big enough, I will be adding a couple more tanks where the stock spare tire went (I have a tire carrier now)
Another benefit of a compressor is, when you camping you can stock the campfire lol yes it works...
Compressors price range is huge, do your research on Duty-Cycles and what you want and how often will you go 4wheeling..
In the end, Im very happy with the compressor route, but will also be getting a 20# CO2 tank as a back up.
    I hope this helps.

Tanks are SUPER fast.... but also a PITA to have to get refilled. And that is here in So Cal with plenty of locations. Seems like half the time they want you to drop it off and come back. I don't have time for that. Fortunately I was only borrowing my buddy's tank to test it out and get it refilled. I gave it back to him and he agreed, getting it refilled is a PITA. IMO it really sucks to have to add yet another errand that I need to do on my time off so that I can be prepared to go wheeling.

I had an ARB Twin Air on my jeep. Worked great but it was mounted on the jeep and I let it go with the jeep when I sold it. I have since picked up an ARB Single that is portable and mounted in a plastic tool box. Only slightly slower than the Twin, cheaper, lighter, mobile so I can use it with any vehicle. I am very happy with it. YMMV. Good luck.
