Oil filter

You could go with a Baxter conversion adapter and replace the factory canister oil filter with a larger capacity spin on filter.

 

To be honest it won't make a difference. Doesn't really matter

 

Been using the WIX or K&N. The filter choice isn't as important as just doing frequent changes.... <5K miles. My $.02

 

10k is fine with any brand of synthetic oil

 

The two Toyota YouTube geniuses I trust completely are 'Toyota-Maintenance Channel' and 'The Car Care Nut'..... both 100% solid info. And both strongly tout 5K oil changes. 300K miles is in my future.

hi, do you guys have the part number for the TRD oil filter? today i changed my wifes 4runner today, I noticed the o-ring (has a red color) from the previous oil change I did and it was stick on the filter housing. I lubed it up good last time too, i guess I didn't lube it good enough. So i installed a purolator boss filter and came with green o-ring. I lubed it good and put it back on. Maybe I should have clean out the red color off the filter. Anyway, next time I am going to change the oil and install the new metal oil filter, those plastic housing are horrible!

Has this been given a new part number? Half the Toyota websites say it’s no longer available. Haven’t checked locally but it seems a lot of online Toyota parts stores say it’s no longer available

 

I know it has been out of stock for a while, I am not aware if its been discontinued.
Amsoil sells the same filter and it has also been out of stock for a long time.
Amsoil just did get them back in-stock, but with a pretty good price increase. Amsoil part number: EA15K49

 

Amsoil site says it’s the Ea15k49. Retail is $30 a filter.

 

Your correct, I corrected my part number. With my discount a case of six is $132.35 or $22.06 each.

 

I like amsoil's oil, but the filter is a bit pricey... I failed to mentioned, my wife's 4runner is 2021...

Yes, I have used both the PTR43-00079 and the Amsoil EA15K49 filters in my 2021 TRD ORP and my 2019 Limited. The oil filters for the 5th generation 4Runner's have always been the same from 2010 until today.

 

Confirmed with local Toyota parts guy……no part number change. He said they’re just literally out of stock so if you find them grab a few.

I ordered two of the amsoil to try out.

 

The one nice thing about the Amsoil filters, that I have used, is that the plastic oil filter housing drain tube is screw on. You just screw it in slowly and the oil will start to drain.
The Toyota filter has the snap in drain tube that can make a little bit of a mess if you don't get in snapped in quickly or straight.

 

I usually use the Toyota filter but am going to use Wix this weekend. Also going to use Amsoil Synthetic 5W-30. I've heard great things about Amsoil. I'm also changing my rear diff fluid with their Severe Gear 75W-90.

 

Amsoil is excellent. Are you going to be doing 10K intervals? I think it's overkill for 5K changes.

 

With approximately 178k miles on the MarkMobile, I am going to go with 7500-8000 mile intervals. I want this wonderful truck going well past 400k miles! I just wish I didn't have to use a mechanic to replace the oil pan gasket; no lift = no bueno.

Have it, the drain is a waste as it takes way to long to drain oil. The filter wrench and funnel are excellent.
