the rust is on the welds . paint falls off the weld . so I do a small wire brush and apply the galv paint then after a day or so apply the black performance paint.
years ago I did drive in nasty weather with my GM truck . but now I do not drive in the road mess when the snow hits . so I am very happy with the little rust I have to deal with . toyota did a much better job on the under body paint work.. frame should have had a thicker application .. lower control arms I have seen are not looking good on pictures posted on the forums .

on some 3rd gen runners they had to replace those control arms.

I have fluid filmed since new, once a year. I drive anytime the weather hits and all winter long. Three salty winters now. Control arms and every other part of the vehicle underneath looks like it just came off the boat.

Will this type wrench work on a 2018 Off Road, or do I need one with the slots in the side (like the Motivx)?

I can’t even begin to tell you if it will or won’t. I imagine if it fits over the housing with no play and goes up it far enough it’ll work.

I’m also a firm believer in the right tool for the job and have two of the filter wrenches. One in the tool box and one in the vehicle with me.

4x4Runner, you didn't say which wrenches you have. AST, Motivx, other...? Do you recall if they have slots like these:

Here are the two I have. The matco one I had to drill out to accommodate a 3/8” extension. Helps to get the drain plug off if it’s over torqued.
