    November 2015:

Hey, just joined up. Got a '14 TE yesterday from a dealer in Pittsburg, PA after wanting a 4R for probably most of my adult life. The cost, frankly, was the motivating factor for me to not ever get one - but I finally figured, what the heck, that's why I work.

Anyway, I've had a few Tacos and an Xterra over the past few years, and do some light off-roading, general dirt road exploring, and the like. I intend to use the 4R for exploring Appalachian Ohio where I live, and for road trips.

I have a small lift coming, already got some Weathertechs, got an appointment for window tint, and am looking at forums for other ideas.

About me - full time cop, part time EMT-I, married, no kids, other hobbies include camping, motorcycling, shooting, outdoor stuff. I live south of Canton in Tuscarawas County, a rural area with a ton of old mines, abandoned roads, etc; ripe for exploring.

Hope to be a productive snarky contributor to the site!

    Day I bought the 2014:

Update, we moved to Eureka, California in April 2016. The TE did great on the 2600mi trip but I reckon I could have used some airbags:

Update, I got a new 2017 SR5 4R in May 2017, and my wife traded in her Prius and also got a new 2017 SR5 4R a week later (pre-mods, and mine is the MGM one):

    My modifications are here:

This is how it is at present, 2.5" lift, 285s, TRD wheels, other little mods:

Since getting my 2017 4R I have driven it to:

    California
    Oregon
    Washington
    Yukon
    British Columbia
    Alberta
    Alaska
    Idaho
    Montana
    Utah
    Nevada
    Arizona
    Wyoming
    Colorado
    Texas
    New Mexico
    Oklahoma
    Missouri
    Arkansas
    Tennessee
    North Carolina
    Illinois
    Indiana
    Kentucky
    Nebraska
    Kansas
...and probably a state or three I am forgetting...

All my trips can be found at the master link here, divided into folders by date and destination:

Update, as of June 2020; my wife sold her white 4R and took my MGM 4R, I bought a used 19 MGM TRD OR.

Both are set up pretty much the same now:
    2.5/1.5 Eibach lifts w/ 5100s at 0, 10mm driver spacer
    285 Destination AT2
Warn 8k winches on SDHQ hidden mounts
    Tint
    TE wheels
    RCI skids...

For about the last 3 years we've been taking extended dirt road and off road trips and have been camping from the truck. We took two month long trips to Alaska, one in 2018 and one on 2019 and were totally self contained. There's tons of old mountain roads around here (extreme norCal) and we enjoy exploring and camping in the nowhere. The 4Rs have proven to be very capable trucks!

Update May 2021: heading back home to Ohio. Five years in California is enough for us. Love it here, and hate it here. Should be on the ground in northeastern Ohio by August 2021...

    .
Update July 2021: closing on a house in rural Richland County, and will be moved in by July 15! We sold her 2017 4R and bought a base Tacoma to facilitate work on the property, which is 8 acres.

This is the first 4Runner I've owned having come out of full size diesels and several Tacos. I love mine man, pretty sure you'll be happy with your choice.

Bad ass,.... way cool mang,... Love the gun metal gray color,.. love mine. Waited for months to score a gray one. Whites, and silvers for fucking days, but, i held firm, for the color to come available.
Its funny, as it seemed like NO ONE liked the grays, for a long while. Then, seems like when i started looking, and got mine, every buddy now is rocking the gray lol. The new concrete color, thats out, looks WAY sick, i wanna trade mine in already, and find one of those lol.
Any way, good shit man. You seem hella happy, and that is rad. Keep on truckin mate.

Thinking about pulling up stakes and moving to E Tennessee in the next few months after 5 years in California. Exact location is dependent on whoever gets a job first. She's a NP, me a lowly cop.

Any thoughts or advice are appreciated from those locals in the know.

I'd love to live in Tellico Plains but I don't think I can find a job anywhere around there so realistically Cleveland / Athens / Maryville is where we'll end up. Maybe as far west as Chattanooga...

Edit, was looking pretty hard at moving to Alcoa, but work was hard to come by (Covid?)... canceling plans for now...

If you're looking for a helluva a good time, you can always join the cowboys at Knoxville PD. When I was a K9 handler, every year we'd have to meet up for K9 certifications (4 full days). The Knoxville guys (among 100+ K9 Officers from around the Midwest) would come up to us, or we'd go to them, just depending on where it was being hosted that year. Anyway, those boys are a riot, but also meant business. I don't have a single bad thing to say about them, expect for - try to keep up, work hard, play hard.
