Hello everyone. I have a question I could not find already discussed. Sorry if I missed it. I own a 2016 4 runner trail. It is great all around. I was washing it and noticed a difference in the rear wheel wells. The left rear wheel well has a mud flap as well as an attached upper mud guard above, where the right rear wheel well has only the mud flap and no guard above or holes where one had been. Is there a reason I could not install my own mud guard like the left. Thank you

Thanks for the reply wnelax04sr5. I was basically going to cover the opening right above the mud flap with similar material as the left. I guess my question should have also asked why is the right side different. I am no real mechanic but both sides seem the same except that the opening I want to cover on the right side, has already been done to the left from factory. I did not see any wires or lines that may be the reason. Thanks

on my 2016 T4R pre SR5 the driver side has a plastic cover the passenger side has no cover all steel . the wheel well however has no holes its all blocked both sides . same amount of protection .

My plan is to cover all the wheel well steel with a undercoating product that I have used in the past . remove all that plastic stuff and brush on 2 coats of the black mineral based product.

I have a 21 and 16 yr old GM vehicles this stuff works. did the same to those when new still good. did require some touch up after 10 yrs ..product called rusfre 1013-1 I buy a gallon . also good for tree cut repairs ..

I just did the driver side rust proofing . took off the plastic piece on top of the mud guard. I found some of the plastic fasteners where not installed properly . they should have had a steel screw to hold down the plastic shield that covers the fuel tank pipe assembly. this causes this plastic to flop around. I found some s/steel screws with the same design as the steel screws they used on the mud flap now it is locked in place and does not move. plastic should be under the shield not over it. screw with washer locks it in place on top of the shield .
