Hello, I’ve been driving a 2003 SR5 V8 for about 16 years. Bought it with around 103 or 111,000, can’t recall. Radiator blew a hole while driving in a construction zone so I had to go further than I wanted. Ended up dying on me just as I made it to an exit ramp. Let it cool off and tried to start it but it wouldn’t start. Had it towed to my house, tried to start it the next day and it fired up for about 4 seconds and ran pretty rough then died. Several days later, same thing. Someone told me if it ran at all the engine might be ok. It had 434,000 miles. What do you all think?

A coil pack or two could have gotten too hot and melted. Scan guage could find which one isn’t firing. Welcome aboard.

Yeah…I’m going to get someone knowledgeable to look at it at some point. It has a lot of miles and the frame is pretty rough here and there but it may be worth fixing. I’ll definitely need to replace the timing belt. The current one has at least 330,000 miles on it, possibly 434,000, roughly. I must have gotten lucky.

Welcome from Wisconsin! The engine had a good life! You put 300K+ miles on it since you had it, is the rest of the truck in good shape? If so, you could get a used/rebuilt engine. Just a thought.

I haven’t ruled that out. For 430,000 miles its in good shape. Exhaust needs work, has some rust on frame but I was 100 percent anticipating getting at least 500,000 or more out of it.
