Thanks for the heads-up. I really don't understand why the default setting is to unlock all doors when put in park, especially in today's world. The first thing I do when I put mine in park is lock the doors after they automatically unlock. I definitely need to change the setting after seeing this video.

Because people just want to open the door and go.

The solution is to keep badgers in your car at all times. They are vicious animals.

Lol, I'll stick with something a little better than that...:)
BTW, the unlock button is really easy to use.

My doors do not unlock when I put it in park. I simply reach for my door handle, pull, open the door and get out. That setting was changed on day one.

These thieves are risking their lives doing that in Texas - one of these days someone is going to pull a gun and shoot them.

If the system is similar to what I have in my Highlander, the setting is really easy to change - nothing like trying to program the Homelink buttons. There are a number of options as well. I have mine set up so that only the driver door unlocks with the key fob so I don't get any uninvited visitors.

Yes, it takes less than a minute to change the setting on the newer ones. So much nicer than the older ones you had have customized with a scan tool.

This is why I don't carry, even though I have a CPL. We have swung so far the other direction that smash and grab, flash mob shoplifting is ignored and people trying to defend themselves from property crimes are often penalized. A jury would probably say "it's just a purse, no reason to use lethal force".

    Oooh look, another mod.....
I made this change on my 4Runner the moment I got it. "When shift into park" - OFF! Yeah, I want to keep the doors locked at all times. The door auto-unlocks the moment I pull on the door handle. There's no need for Toyota to do it for me.

I'm thankful to live in a place where this and so many other urban/suburb centric crimes, simply do not exist. Good tips for those that live/work where this sort of thing happens.

Concealed pistol license, Not all states have the same name for concealed carry license. Just like driving under the influence is called different things all over the country.

So let's say this slider crime happens to me, and I pull and discharge. The perp is unarmed. At minimum I endure court time and costs, loss of income due to missing work, plus the very real possibility I sit in jail for some amount of time. The castle doctrine doesn't really extend beyond the home, and the burden of proof for use of lethal force rests on the person who uses a firearm, not the criminal. I don't feel people think this through enough, even though the NRA et al would have you believe that these shootings are justifiable.

You're right, many people don't think it through. That's why knowing the laws of the state you're in is paramount. Why even bother with getting your CPL, if you're afraid of stopping a threat to you? Are these new feelings that started after you got one? Maybe you could just let "them" buy it back and we'll all be safer...

    Geez.

I thought it was great that the fucking loser couldn't overpower the victim to steal her purse. Hopefully his piece of shit buddies made fun of him for it.

My ex got her purse snatched once, and it was such a shitty experience. I ended up trying to chase the guys (not smart, I know) and finally quit when they stopped and got out and ran towards my car. I was so pissed off.

I personally feel that you'd be justified. But, convincing a jury would be a different story, unfortunately.

True. But, if someone forces their way into your car, you don't know their intentions. Probably just trying to steal your car or wallet, sure. But, if they come in yelling and threatening someone, I wouldn't feel bad if they got shot.

If they get shot while they're running away, that's a whole different thing.

Can this be done on a '19? Or, do I need some special equipment for this?

Mine only unlocks the driver's door with one click, and the rest with another click. I thought all Toyotas were like that. :notsure:

While Id agree usually, in this case the thief entered the car with the owner in it. How do you know they aren't armed? Why would I risk my own life by waiting to figure that information out before its too late? What if he just wanted to stab me in the neck? Was I suppose to wait and figure out if he just wanted my wallet? Most incidents like that happen in seconds. There's no time to figure that out. I am defending my life over theirs, period. And if a guy is breaking into my car with me in it, my assumption is he is there to harm me.

Now, if I pull up on them robbing my car, that's a different story. Id let them take whatever and call the cops. Property is no concern of mine, but my life (and my family) is.

At the end of the day, your job is to get home safe.

And yet TX is the third worst state in the nation for robberies!

    https://www.statista.com/statistics/232564/robbery-rate-in-the-us-by-state/

It does rank in the middle for aggravated assaults (https://www.statista.com/statistics/232568/aggravated-assault-rate-in-the-us-by-state/) and killing people (https://www.statista.com/statistics...gligent-manslaughter-rate-in-the-us-by-state/)

Crime doesn’t seem to follow politics, how armed people are, etc. nearly as much as it does things like large cities, lack of economic opportunity, drug abuse, and other things that basically create situations that facilitate people making bad decisions with regards to how they interact with the rest of society.
