    Hello All,
I'm in the market for a new or slightly used 4runner. I'd like a black one and then modify it with tires, bars, etc. I have a friend at a toyota dealership but I assume any modifications there are pricey, even if he cuts me a deal. I'm in tampa fl, but would like some suggestions on things to look out for or what to avoid. I'm new to this so i'm basically looking at pics of modified 4runners (XD wheels, nerfbar, aeroskin protector, grills etc). Any suggestions on what to avoid or parts that are great would be helpful. Thanks!

welcome! what years are you looking at? going through a dealer can get pricey for parts, you'll find the best deals either online or in the forum classifieds like on t4r, tacomaworld, or fjcruiserforums where parts can be fairly interchangable, at least in terms of wheels and suspension. some of the stuff you've talked about doing like wheels or grilles are simple changes that make a world of difference, and usually if you peruse threads like this one, http://www.toyota-4runner.org/4th-gen-t4rs/51742-lift-tire-central-pics-post-em-up.html , or this one http://www.toyota-4runner.org/4th-gen-t4rs/1469-4th-gen-toyota-4runner-picture-thread.html , you can see a huge range of what people have done. if you have any purchase questions about various years I'm sure theres plenty of us who can either answer them or steer you in the right direction. good luck!

I'd avoid brush guards, and highly recommend doing the work yourself. Dealerships and shops are ridiculously expensive
