Did you make the Trans American Trail run? How hard is it heading towards Gattlingburg from there? I've see a few pictures and it looks like there is great scenery yet not to difficult. Thanks!

Yes. Been from I-40 to max patch using hurricane creek. I have heard the trail has changed a lot since I did it over a year back. People wear this trail out so I’d imagine conditions have worsened.

Thank you - very helpful - I'll take another run at it when the ice is gone then.

Here are some of the pics from our adventure on what looks like the Tuesday after you went (based on amount of snow in the pic) I probably wouldn't take a completely stock rig. I ran it without skids, which made me nervous in a couple of spots. I'm lifted about 2.5" and on a "+1" tire size (265/70 instead of the OE 265/65). I didn't have any hard bottoming out, but the other guys did hit a few objects on their under sides. The Tundra had a longer wheelbase and the other Tacoma had worn out rear springs and a locking trailer hitch (and no key to remove it).

I would say that an IFS skid is mandatory (OE Off Road or Pro should be fine) along with a little skinny pedal in the muddy section (not enough to tear it up, but enough to keep momentum). Sliders are not a requirement, IMO.

Got a link to the video you shared the screenshot? I'd be interested to watch if it is posted publicly.

I looked at your linked pictures. The point photo showing where you needed a spotter was where we had to turn back. it was covered with ice and i kept slipping back into the groves. my skid plate hit the rock between the tire paths since i couldn't get a tire on it. I'm not lifted but i have the stock TRD Off Road Premium skid plates. @CowboyTaco @ThePnsh3r

I'll try to post my video to facebook and provide a link - back to real life this week which is getting in the way of fun stuff....

OBX, just got the truck a couple months ago. Gotta wear these tires out so I can level and get bigger ones.

Planning on moving to North Carolina in a couple months. Would love to get to know the trails and go sight seeing. We are planning on being close to Denver. I heard Asheville is the place to see. All of the places I have thus far and looking for more to add to the list...

    Biltmore estate
    Grove park inn
    Mnt pisgah
    Bervard - waterfall
    Tunnel on blue ridge parkway

Anyways nice looking vehicles everyone. Hope to see some of you on the trails.

    Can't see it.

And that rock was the one that scared me the most without skids. I was told my new IFS skid should ship this week, so that hopefully won't be a concern for much longer.

Gorges State Park has overlanding trails and a couple of my favorite falls... Rainbow and Turtle Back. Somewhat above is Panthertown Valley which has about 25 waterfalls to view.

Asheville area! Some photos of the ride in Waynesboro and on the Parkway before it was totaled by a drunk driver. Excited to have the replacement up here tomorrow!

Anyone in Charlotte area looking for a TRD skid plate? It’s already trimmed to fit with KDSS. The skid has no trail damage. Asking $225. Message me if interested.

You may hit up grant318is on TW. He is either selling or just sold his 4Runner. I think he was looking to do a part out of some of his mods. Has a nice Prinsu and cargo cabinets among several other things. He is in the ATL area, but I'm sure we could get the stuff to you relatively easily if you wanted any of it.
