fellas, 2000 v6 4 wheel drive Limited owner with 253k on her here. What is the name of the part that goes from the air box to the engine itself? And is it wise to get one off a 97 4R? Reason i'm asking is because right before where the mass air flow sensor is, the black tube is cracked at the top.

Also i am no mechanic by any means, but what little things can I repair/replace on my own and where to buy the parts at. A member suggested that I get a Torque ratchet which will be tomorrow. Oh yeah, should I get the 3/8" or 1/2"? Or both? They're kinda expensive but worth it i guess.

And I know there is always posts about the brake upgrade, so here's another one. I don't tow and if I did it would be something small so with that said, should I get the 199mm or 231mm?

    Thanks in advance.

For the Torque wrench, it goes by ft-lbs or in-lbs. I have 3.

This one has worked well since it has a wide range. I like the old-school needle types. They last forever if you treat them well.

I do have a click type for big 250 ft-lb jobs (crank bolt and steering knuckles). I also have a 1/4" for tiny jobs...but you generally don't need that.

That part you're talking about can be purchased from Toyota. I bought it on-line from McGeorge Toyota. After 20 years...almost all used ones are going to be trash. It is of a particular material that the engine heat just kills over time.

For parts, I plug my vin into PARTSOUQ.com (lots of diagrams to find your part) or call the dealer with my VIN. Either way, my VIN gets me the right part number and I then go to (my favorite) online dealer McGeorge Toyota and order. Sometimes you can find decent parts on ebay/Amazon. Beware of fakes.

They seem to be cheaper on large orders overall plus they are only Toyota parts. I try to buy only Toyota parts since they generally last 250k miles. Some stuff if I can buy the OEM supplier I will get it from Amazon or Partsgeek. Amazon is so full of fakes now, it's hard to know what you're getting.

I bought an aftermarket air intake hose for $20 and it cracked after 6 months. I then bought a genuine Toyota for $80 and it should last for 20 years just like the original one.
