I am picking this up in utah tomorrow and have to drive it 500 miles..... I will replace the taillight and look underneath for tie rod damage, fuel and brake line leaks and maybe measure center of wheels front and back and compare with damaged side and when driving see if it shakes or pulls.... I asked the yard guy to go look at it..... he said tires looked straight to him..... my 3 questions.... do you think its ok to drive? would you drive it? and how hard is it to roughly fix it? thanks, Bryan

I would make sure that the Tail light works properly like turn signals and brake lights and if going to be driving in the Dark the tail light should also work and be of the correct colors because the UTHP has been using any of the such issues as a reason to pull you over. So grab clear translucence red tape and make sure no bright white light shining out when on.

3 important thins to do before driving it. Measure diagonally from 2 of the same points of frame front to rear. if they are not the same then you have frame damage. Also get under the vehicle and check every single component on that corner. You need to pull the wheel to do this properly.

And most important: Check for air bag deployment!! it's very simple to do by going under the vehicle and comparing the 2 sensors to see if one has wrench marks on it. It is common to sell vehicles by carefully stuffing back in the air bags and replacing sensors.

I don't think we know the whole back story. It might very well be a great deal. OTOH it can turn into a nightmare if there is frame damage or airbags have deployed.

I would say the thrill and the lure of a 4Runner for a lot less $$$ and having the willingness to take the risk at what it may cost to fix it up. I have done the same with a different Toyota and it worked out good then.

Super that the mechanics worked out. Shit those prices are sky high on both the one you sold and the one you bought. It would have been better to sell the cigarette butt and then wait out this craziness to buy back in, no?
