I’m sorry to hear this. I didn’t know you were from Afghanistan (?). You may need to sell your truck for now, but you don’t need to leave the forum. You’re a brother here now.

When you say sponsor your parents, what do you mean exactly?

4Runners retain their value probably better than most vehicles. But family indeed comes first.

    Fact :

A Toyota 4Runner will depreciate 39% after 5 years and have a 5 year resale value of $27,563.
The Toyota 4Runner ranks in our Top 10 for both the 5-year and 7-year rankings,
and does very well for retaining its value over time.

In America we have such a great system, parents have retirement plans and all that. In my part of the world, the eldest son is their retirement plan. I mean I am being forced to sell my dream car that I saved up money for, for 7 years, to take care of my parents, as if the money that I have been sending them all these years was not enough. The government wants $21,000 of income for each relative that I bring in, $42,000 for both, l am well over that. But they also want to see some hard cash.

Thanks. By sponsoring I mean that I want to bring in my parents to live with me here. If my mother doesn't see me for one year, she starts crying like a baby. And there is no way I will go there to visit my mother now, absolutely not. Now the only other choice is to bring them here

If you're selling to help out family, I definitely respect and admire that! I'm glad to see you enjoyed it while you had it. Do what's right for you!

Please stick around and check in here!

No I cannot afford lawyers, I am doing everything myself. It is a pretty straightforward process. Everything is online, I submitted the payment of almost $2,000 for my parents, and now the case is open for further processing.

The United States has presence in so many countries, and for so long. Just One More Country, what difference would have it made? This is one of my complaints from the US government. That country should have been under US supervision for a good another half a century. The lion left, now the hyenas will slaughter everyone.

I think that would count as a public charge that will affect this sponsorship case negatively. The reason I am being asked so many questions is to make sure that my parents don't become public charge

My parents don't have a good case to run from there, so no refugee status. They will be fine locked up in the outskirts of the city. The problem is, I as an American am not willing to go there on a suicide mission to visit my parents. Imagine landing at the airport and seeing those medieval horror characters around you. So, get my parents here. And that doesn't qualify for US government assistance. Only sponsorship is the right thing to do.

You have blessed us with some good posts of your adventures. With that said, your 4Runner can get you the cash you are seeking.
I sold 2 new vehicles this year for a little more than MSRP. In this market you can pretty much “test drive” a vehicle for a couple months and not take a huge loss on selling it.
Hopefully my 4Runner is Goldilocks, so far so good.
Carvana and Carmax are easy peasy to work with and reasonable on their offers.
Best of luck to you and your family.

Hey an idea just struck my mind. What if I told the government that I have an asset, instead of cash. $25,000 asset

I can sell my asset in case I fear my parents will become public charge and homeless. Why to sell my asset now? No, I shouldn't. I am calling USCIS tomorrow morning to see if they accept 60% paid off car as an acceptable asset.

Lol. There are some genuine refugee candidates around this messed up world right now. They should be given preference over those folks, unless you consider poverty a qualifying factor for refugee status. Refugees are public charge, others need to do what I did for myself and now for my parents, come here with a visa and stay here with a visa until you become permanant.
    Anyways, no more politics :p

Ok, I exaggerated. But, as far as financial experts are concerned, I probably shouldn't own a 4Runner. But, the experience is worth it.

That be true… I was going also say you shouldn’t buy a vehicle more then 15-20% of annual income, but what kinda vehicle you driving then? I guess it depends on where you live and work.

If you can afford 60% of annual income on a car, then you should at least be maxing out your 401k - easy step to becoming a millionaire… you would also be broke between car payment and 401k contribution. :)
