Mpg between Limited and TE

Im about the buy a trail premium 4runner in a month and just curios how limited (full time 4wd) gets the same mpg(20mpg hwy) as TE (part time so i will be on 2wd for the most of time).

I like the TE premium because I really want KDSS and dont need extra features that Limited is offering for more money.

But having full time 4wd will be amazing. Limited will have small tires but is there anything else helps limited to get the same mpg as TE?

 

I have a new limited and I'm averaging 18.5. I'm about to change out the wheels and put an A/T tire on. I'll update when I do that.

 

It's because these trucks don't come with manual locking hubs anymore, and haven't for many years... The difference between a Tacoma 4x4 and a pre-runner is also minor for this reason.

With the push button 4x4, the cv axles are still moving all the time. The only thing not moving is essentially just the t-case.

So that combined with the smaller tires is likely what's giving them the same (estimated) mileage.
