More Horsepower Needed

Yes I have had TRUE Muscle cars & Superbikes too. I also work in the Professional avaition industry i.e. Turbine pwr A/C's FW & RW. I'm old now too.Just $0.02 to each his own.

Who doesn't want more HP? I need more so I made a post. I want MPG and HP without compromise. I bought this 4Runner and I will get the results! Just follow me

I also feel the power is plentiful. I have a permanent tent on top and carry a lot inside, probably around 500lbs daily. The other day I had three of us in the cab with all our riding gear, tools, and towing three dirt bikes. I punched it getting on the freeway and the 4.0 just took off, plenty of power, got up to 70mph before entering the highway. Don't get me wrong, if I had the money I would have a supercharger, but I would probably spend the $6K on another dirt bike before that.

Their response to my question if this works on a 2019 T4R TRD:

Yes, this will work with all 4Runner year / models. The Performance chip is a tuned resistor setup to interact with your specific vehicles IAT Sensor. It connects to the Intake Air Temperature Sensor (or the ECT in older vehicles), we adjust the sensor input to change the value of the signal going to the ECU to make the sensor believe that the incoming air is colder than it actually is. This causes the intake to take in more air which acts like a mini supercharger and the increased air flow allows for more HP and torque. As a reaction to the additional air flow, the fuel mixture is leaned out. So on average you add 20 - 30 HP and save 3-5 MPG. The adjustment to the IAT/ECT does not allow the sensor to exceed the factory specifications so it will not damage the vehicle or sensor.

The chip is also made to be able to be removed and reinstalled easily. Although the changes are minimal, during inspection if they see an aftermarket part they may fail. We suggest that you remove the chip the day before the inspection and then reinstall after you pass. Same thing for taking the vehicle into the manufacturer for repair.

Once purchased and you provide the Year, Make, Model and VIN Number, we provide you the diagram for finding and installing the unit in your specific vehicle. This chip will not disable the speed limitation set by the vehicle's computer.

I just took it on a 5 hour drive on the highway mostly...it needs more power. I'm only speaking of the TRD Pro though. I have maybe added 300lbs with accessories and off-road tools. The T4R struggles under 2-2.5K RPM. Average about 19.5 mpg highway

I guess it really depends on your driving habits, and what you're used to.

I have 3-400# of tools, recovery gear, etc in mine at all times. I have no problem getting up to 100 MPH when I need to get around a group of slow drivers.

If you think it NEEDS more power, you probably bought the wrong truck.

Man talk about a power increase. I've been deadheading a 6x10 enclosed cargo trailer from MT. to So. CA. and returning with 3~4,000# of accumulated "treasures" for the past year. When I unhook after the 1,200 mi. trip, it's an instant power boost.
Been building some ripped right leg stomp on the go pedal muscles.

Found out I needed an alignment. Added almost 2 MPG with the front end needing about .45 degree of adjustment overall. Cost me $144 for a 3 year unlimited deal at Goodyear.

Using the DISP button on the steering wheel, toggle to the MPG display. Hold the DISP button down for about 5 or 10 seconds and it will reset the calculated MPG.

Not wanting to spend a million dollars on FI, I went this route and it has made a noticeable difference for me. This truck weighs in the neighborhood of 5900 lbs with all the crap I've added, so it needed some juice. I do not have documented dyno numbers and I do run premium fuel, so take this for what it's worth. My Butt dyno says hell ya!! I like it so * F!! * everyone else.

It will not come with an oiled TRD Air Filter. Your stock air filter fits without issue. (Personally, I preferred not to run an oiled filter. YMMV)
It will not come with 15" of wire loom....cheap at auto parts store!
It will not come with 20" of 5/32 or 1/8" vacuum hose, also cheap at auto parts store!
It will not come with zip ties...IIRC, also cheap at auto parts store!
As described in this thread, a little O2 safe Silicone, and a small plug to seal a hole on the side of the air box and to seal a hole next to a mounting grommet on bottom of air box.
Silicone spray to facilitate inserting the tube into the couplers and you have just saved yourself $150.00}

I also added a Sprint Booster, which gave me the throttle response I was looking for.

So for less than $2000 bucks, it was worth it to me to gain some much needed kick in the ass for this behemoth. Annndddd of course there will be people jumping in here and tell me I wasted my money. I do have a couple of long distance trips from Fla to AZ, one before and one after the performance mods. IMHO? Big Difference! This Florida truck did not like to climb, when I drove out to AZ in 16'. It labored up steep grades at 60-65 mph, dropping into 3rd and jacking the RPMs up over 3500-4000. Now on my trip out here in the last three days, I could drop into 4th and it would lock right in at 3000 RPMs, and hold it's speed at 70 mph. Remember this thing weighs around 6k lbs, so to me these mods have helped tremendously. I will say it's pretty sad we have to go to these lengths to garner some extra HP, but I will take the reliability with the T4R all day long. Truck ran flawlessly all three days in good weather and bad. Good Luck and remember to always raise your pinky when dipping. It's just good T4R etiquette.
