    lol. umm lets see
    • Frame on body is truck like = This SUV rides and handles like a truck - cool but the truck has an SUV hatch
    • Toyota only sells 2 trucks and 4runner is not one them - they sell lots of SUV,s and the runner is one.
    • Does or will any DMV license a runner with truck plates- no
    • Does runner have a truck bed - no, has SUV cubic inch storage
Think what you like but it is a hell of a rig

I don't think there's a right or wrong here, as far as calling it a truck or SUV.

I call it a truck because of reasons mentioned above, and because SUV doesn't exactly roll off the tongue.

    Example-

"I'll be right back; i forgot something in the_____"

    Look at a big rig.

Everyone refers to them as trucks and they don't have a bed.

Interesting, Seems Wisconsin thinks all SUV's still have body on frame

*SUVs (sport utility vehicles) are built on a truck chassis but can be registered as an automobile when more than 50% of the internal capacity is dedicated to seating.

All SUVs ARE still body on frame. Car based "SUVs" are crossovers or CUVs.

Why am I still feeding the troll?

Not to add more fuel to the fire but the 4Runner is a truck. Where I live both my insurance and state registration say “Toyota Truck” next to 4Runner.

Thanks, Since beginning of Internet forums I've never been called a troll. I guess whatever reason when someone feels threatened they call troll?
Anyway couple more things and I'll drop this
    • You say that all SUV's are body on frame yet based previous post that 4R is a truck because its body on frame. Its still an SUV. I get it, SUV market split, many CUV based on car - SUV based on truck. They were still SUV's just based on a truck platform. But since you stated all SUV's are body on frame, I suppose all SUV's are trucks. According to google I think they said 14 SUV's remain body on frame, yet they are still SUV's.
    • Toyota markets the 4R as SUV
    • Toyota markets 2 trucks, Taco and tundra
    • Since no one responded sooner, I was unaware some states allow truck plates on a 4R. My state does not
    • I got a nickel if you asked outside of the forum environment a huge percentage would say 4R is an SUV. my unscientific method was asked 15-20 people at a party last night and they all found it humorous that you all cling to calling it a truck and all said it's an SUV
    • I concede, that 4R is an SUV based on a truck platform but to outright call it a truck, sorry old German stubborn guy here never will call it a truck.
    • Perhaps you'll all consider accepting you have an SUV or settle for Utility vehicle(UV) based on a truck platform.
I promise I won't talk about this any more, cheers

I don't think that anyone here has denied that it is an SUV.

My point is that an SUV is a type of truck. At least, in the case of body on frame SUV's.

And, that no-one has ever said "Crap, I locked my keys in my SUV!"

In casual conversation, few people will ever refer to their vehicle as what it actually is. Most will say "car" or "truck." The 4runner is more truck than car.

The next time you hang out with your 15-20 friends, ask them to fill in the blank:

    "I can't find my ______ keys"

Then, let us know how many of them say "crossover, sedan, coupe, hybrid, SUV, wagon, hatchback, van, minivan, ETC" VS how many say "car" or "truck"

I may be stubborn as well, but I just can't ever see myself using the term "SUV" in casual conversation. To each their own.

    Cheers!
