You’re lucky. For 160 bucks, it’s a no-brainer. I had a non-local detailer that offered Woolwax underbody coating for 450bucks, and I almost went with him.

Logistics were difficult for the 400 mile round trip to the detailer, so ultimately I did the woolwax application myself.

Late to this party but to echo others, be like Sir Robin and bravely run away.

yeah, that’s what surprised me. I only did an internet search, but only zeibart type coatings available around here in southeast wisconsin.

Just as well though, it seems my hobby is to be underneath the 4runner anyway. I usually bring a can of woolwax with me to touch up whenever Im under there.

That ziebart stuff doesn’t have the best rep in my eyes, not a fan. I’m surprised you don’t have more places to go. The stuff I use is called ‘rust stop’, we also have Ziebart and krown in the area. I seen the rust stop keep my friends moms Chrysler aspen clean so that was good proof to me

Towards the end of my tenure (2018-2019) at the Toyota Dealership here in DFW area, we were doing several "Frame Replacements" on trucks and SUV's, all from the NE area.
These Frame's we removed (from 2005 and newer vehicles) were like brown rusty Paper Mache" just waiting for a hard wind to crumble apart!
Not sure what specs / criteria had / have to be met to get the replacement covered, but that is an option for anyone that has recently moved down to the south with a rusting frame on their Toyota.

Sorry for all the pain and suffering our state / county’s put you through lol, I would love it if they didn’t plow the roads until a certain amount accumulated, and didn’t salt at all but that’s me loving a nice 4x4 drive through the snow. Everyone else in front / rear wheel drives and highway tires well they need the help.

Tmiesowicz - us Texans in DFW see a "Dusting" of snow and the cities shut down!! I'm a native Texan and even I think that's a bit ridiculous. Y'all see feet of snow in a day and its business as usual.

Winter does not stop me lol, snow blow then still grill your dinner. I would Rather have snow vs hurricanes, tornados, landslides, etc.

Nice! I'll stick with the heat. I do love the snow and skiing, just not for months at a time.

The temps are going to rise for the next 25 years, so, you prob want to head north, not too far north. And stay away from lower laying areas or military bases.

Same. I actually like the winter, I find it's much easier to deal with than oppressive heat, you couldn't pay me to live somewhere that's hot and humid all the time.

People love to talk crap about California, but I'll be damned if Southern California doesn't have some of the best weather in the country. I've been there in the middle of the summer and the middle of the winter. Both times the weather was beautiful.

The 4 seasons are nice to change things up a bit. I have no idea how it is to have 1 season I guess to say, never lived anywhere else. The cold keeps the poisonous spiders and snakes and shit away to.

I'll take my chances. Not leaving Texas, way cheaper to live down here than up North or out West.
We are used to the Heat, just as you are used to the snow.

I would most certainly be happier in Texas with the way it’s ran VS NY that’s for sure. Never been down south yet I have to get out more in life. Not having your vehicle prone to salt and dying that way is nice that’s for sure! My supervisor drives a Texas vehicle and clean for its age

I was last in NY in 1999 when my Dallas Stars were playing the Buffalo Sabres in the Stanley Cup Finals. We all know how that ended.

    :ohsnap: :laugh::laugh::laugh:

Ive lived in the cold too long, I dont think I’d mind getting used to heat and humidity. I’m visiting family in Puerto Rico and it’s amazing to see 20 year old imports with no rust anywhere. I changed out some brake shoes and shocks on my dad’s 1999 Rav4, not even the threads on the shock bolts had rust! The cars die natural deaths down here, broken into pieces from potholes lol.

Im seeing clean samurais down here all over the place, that look new. Back in Wisconsin, these things have long ago returned to the earth in the form of oxides.

No comment on the power grid down here lol

Humidity just makes me super cranky, so I don't think I could ever learn to live with that. Good point on the cars though. When I was in SoCal visiting friends a few years ago I was amazed at the number of like 30 or 40-year-old vehicles just parked on the street that were being used as daily drivers. Here in the northeast anything over 10 or 15 years old is suspect. A friend of mine has a 2012 SR5 4Runner and she just spent like grand in corrosion-related repairs. A new caliper due to frozen pins and piston, then seized cam bolts foiled an alignment, which necessitated new lower control arms and bolts. She recently lost her last heat shield, and she sent me a photo asking about the rusted out dog legs under the rear door. Advised her at that point she might want to think of trading it in cuz that is only going to get worse, she's probably wishing she had heeded my advice at that time since she's like 3,500 bucks into this thing in maintenance in just the last 2 months.

Almost makes me want to replace mine now so that we part ways on good terms, lol.

Looks decent in my eyes if it’s a salt belt vehicle, check that same spot that was rotted out on the last.

I agree, I'd rather have constant power as well. No doubt about that. The company ERCOT who runs Texas' grid is a bit inept.
At least we don't have to buy new cars constantly in fear of them falling apart. My 2007 Tundra has zero rust on it and had it since day one!

Depends on how much you care for your vehicle up here, washing it, a little wax, and annually rust proofing it for $160 goes a long way. I have a 2001 Tahoe that’s seen every winter since new and still looks great. Other people not like me don’t mind never washing it, and letting trash pile up in the interior and such with no fucks given…I don’t feel bad if there vehicle goes to shit and they have to buy a new one.

2006 with 195K miles. The seller wants $11.8k. I'm going to pass though because I just realized its RWD. Looking for something to help in the snow up here in NJ.
