    I'd love your recommendations for a suspension with no lift. It might be too early to worry about it, but I keep thinking about what to get to replace my XREAS when it craps out (or I get bored). I'm fine with the stock height and forward tilt, but would love a suspension that performs better under braking and turning without creating a much stiffer ride.

    The amount of lift I have is 1/2” higher than a stock Pro - 1 1/2” vs 1” for a Pro, for reference. It gives a robust, level, tough stance, and is still easy for passenger access and egress. I like to retain stock tire size on Toyota’s, as I do not like to reduce the performance of the vehicle with higher gearing from larger tires. Toyota’s have just barely enough HP and torque with stock gearing, imho. Toyota’s look great with a modest lift like that. It gives the vehicle better proportion aesthetically, and better performance if you use high quality components. The stock suspension on my OR was quite anemic in comparison to ELKA.
    I would say Elka and King are quite equal, in terms of quality and design, with Elka arguably a bit better. They’re definitely lesser known, which is unfortunate, because they make great products, in Canada, and give top notch personal service. They custom make each order, and will work with you to calibrate the suspension any way you like. If you’d like no lift, Elka can set it up like that for you.

    Did you install this yourself? Just to verify - rear Elka shocks with Cornfed spacers & stock rear springs?

    Hi glwood, yes, matching rear 2.5 Elka IFP and a 1/2” spacer. If I could have bought a 1/2” rear spring, I would have, but there aren’t any. At one point I ordered an adjustable Eibach but cancelled it after the reviews on here weren’t positive. I really didn’t want a high, positive rake and even 1” would give that. I didn’t want the vehicle much higher overall than a Pro, which was my general reference. Also, I wanted a KDSS specific suspension.
    Which comes to installation. I considered doing it myself, which I’ve done before on Tacoma’s, but the KDSS system deterred me. I had a small well known custom 4x4 shop in the Toronto area put it on, and I know the mechanic/owner. He took it to his guy for the wheel alignment, who does wheel alignments on lifted vehicles all day long. I’m glad I made that decision, even though it cost me a bit more to have someone else do it. KDSS was no big deal for Ski, at CT Motorsports. I don’t know anyone who knows more about Toyota’s than he does.

    I guess copying is a form of flattery, but knowing what I do about Elka, I’d be surprised if they are manufacturing for Toytec. The design of the attachment point to the lower control arm is a good one. I hope Elka have it patented. An advantage of buying from Elka is access to the engineering expertise in the company and the custom manufacturing. Toytec is just a reseller, I believe.

    Hey nimby, I stand corrected! I just asked one of the Elka guys I have been dealing with when I ordered my system, and he confirmed that Elka does manufacture for Toytec. I guess access to a big US market would be a good reason for a small company like Elka to sell through a better known distributor such as Toytec. Knowing that, if someone has any custom needs, they may as well buy directly from Elka than go through a reseller.

    If Elka is doing the manufacturing, it sounds like Toytec went to Elka to have them build some shocks for their brand. Nothing wrong with that. I just find it interesting.

    I was doing a little sleuthing myself :spy: and they are dead ringers for one another. Not sure if they use all the same internal components, but I bet they are very close.

    They Toytec version sells for $100 cheaper.

    The price difference is probably just the result of a big group savings buy by Toytec. Same specs, I agree, nimby, if it works for them, great. They're a great product, either way. Knowing that, though, I'd probably personally stick with Elka anyway, just because they're the manufacturer and they can give you service that Toytec can't.

    How do you like those Coopers? I am seriously considering this tire 275/70/17. Only hesitation is that it only comes in E load. How would you say your day to day driving is? People say E load is a lot for our trucks but these are quite a bit lighter than others. I personally have no experience with E load but want the larger tire that these offer without going to 285s. Do you think the lighter weight of these help with less of a hit to MPGs and daily driving comfort? Any feedback would be great.

    Truck looks great. Same with tires.

    I have had Coopers on my last 3 vehicles. Chevy Silverado;1/2 ton- Toyota Tacoma; double cab- and now on the 4Runner, all of them have been E load, 10 ply. On the Tacoma they had a little more aggressive ride, they where 275-70-18. On the Silverado the same size rode a little better, I think due to the extra weight. On the 4Runner I run 35Lbs. air pressure, and the ride is pretty smooth. Mileage wise I think the 4Runner is at 16+, the Silverado was at 20, and the Tacoma about 17. A friend of mine who works at a tire shop got me to try them. He said that all the siping on the Coopers made them a excellent choice for wet and winter driving. My wife daily drives the vehicles we have had with Coopers, living in Wis. we get plenty of snow some times. She never complained about the tires. I'm not sure if 10 ply has anything to do with getting flats, but we haven't had one flat Cooper in about 7yrs. As far as this being too much tire for our trucks... just because they say on the sidewall you can air them up to 80 lbs. why would you have to? I think Cooper tires are alright. Hope that helps you out.

    Reppin for the 4th gens :D

    06 4runner running IVD front with toyect aluma series 2.0 in rear, paired to the toytec HD springs in the rear as well. Stock wheels wrapped with Kenda klevers 285/70 R17 had to cut the plastic liner to fit them.
