I totally agree and that's a nice pistol. We can't make any modifications to our issued duty guns so if we want to run an optic its on us to pay for a new gun. Our SRT guys are the only ones issued a gun capable of running an iptic from the factory.

I don't know that I'm "fighting" them but I've shot a duty gun for almost three decades now with no optic and I'm not sure I could make the transition after all that carry and all that shooting.

Hmmm. Recall. 1st was a Smith 6906, then a Ruger 90, Sig 228, and a few different Glocks for the last 17 odd years with the current being a 4th gen 19, only mods being night sights and an extended slide release. And 17 mags in the pouch.

In Texas, as likely everywhere, LEO pay has always been poor. I remember starting back in the 90s and starting pay was like $22K. If not for extra jobs we wouldn’t have been able to pay our bills. Working extra jobs was just a part of that career choice. Working 16 hour days 6 or 7 days a week. I worked for what was then a relatively small city, about 40K population. One of my fellow officer’s wives went to a city council meeting and asked them to cut our pay like $40 a week so we would be eligible for food stamps. That was an eye opener for some of those council members and things started to change. Had it not been for the money, I probably wouldn’t have sought out promotions. Salaries there are much improved now, but still not in line with the massive responsibility, risk and liability. It’s hard enough to hire qualified personnel here in what I would characterize as a LE-friendly state. I can only imagine what it must be like in other places.

Okay, I will admit it. I am a retired Police Sgt after 18 years of service. As an LEO, you will never get invited to gender reveals or Qincineras... jk

The career/job for some takes a special person. It is not like algebra when 2 negatives equal a positive... In law enforcement they equal a negative news story, law suits and potentially termination.

You will get jaded and hyper (situational) awareness is amped up. You see people differently and begin to think they are all scumbags. If you want to make it a career? Make sure to keep friends out side your LEO family. This will keep you grounded.

My decision to retire was "that" case(s)... Triple homocide, terrorist conviction and sex trafficking.

It was fun runnin' and gunnin' but you will eventually get older and feel it. When it is time to retire you will know. You will not get a memo.

Once you retire it is like reading a book. You turn the page to the end. There is no need to go back to contents or intro.

First time I shot a pistol with an optic, it felt like cheating… and when it comes to my life, I cheat to win.

Apparently a man running can stay on top of ice mud crust

A Tahoe chasing said man will break through ice mud crust

I was so close to pavement, too, just missed it by a few inches (that's what she said) with the front wheels. By the time I was in it 4wd was useless...

Come on dude. I like you. We've wheeled together. But shit post in another place. If you have something to say to support LE or you have a question then post up. If you just want to point out bad apples then fuck straight off.

I would accept some version of shit posting if you were a cop and wanted to initiate a discussion about something fucked up or to vent about the job but since you aren't, and you clearly know OP is with SDPD and not CHP, then your purpose here is pretty evident.

Plus that shit is from the Sac Bee which is notoriously anti cop. If you choose to read the Bee then I don't need to know anything more about you or your opinions and we can terminate any friendship right now. They fucked me super hard with erroneous uncorroborated statements prefaced with the bullshit word "allegedly" to give themselves an out, to the point that I'm still dealing with their lies three years later and prepping a libel suit against them.

My holster finally showed up. Had it made by Red River Holsters. Their customer service was top notch and the holster is great quality. The spring spring loaded bail is freaking amazing and going from a level 3 to a level 2 retention will be nice.20221220_083443.jpg 20230105_171024.jpg

Anyone else feel bad for this chick in TN and her 4+ (?) co workers that are all getting eviscerated in national news, and are the butt of a thousand memes on social media? Shit, I bet there's not a picture of any of those people online that hasn't now been turned into a nasty meme.

They fucked on duty and got caught, so discipline them, fire them, whatever is appropriate given the investigation's findings. But don't upend their lives and the lives of their families like this in the national stage. Sounds like she has mental health issues so I don't see a good outcome for her especially.

I actually feel worst for her husband since he's a cop too and appears to be uninvolved except by marriage to her, and he's getting fucked with mercilessly, too.

I know a lot of cops who are laughing at these poor bastards but who live their lives in not a dis-similar way. This shit has always been in public safety and probably always will be; it bothers me that these people are being thrust (no pun intended) into this harsh spotlight and their lives and careers are over.

I went through my agencies SRT testing process on Wednesday. It was the first time I've ever done it and was pretty nervous about doing it. I got a call from the LT and SGT of the SRT team tonight letting me know I had been selected. Later on a guy from the team texted me and let me know I had scored the highest out of my work group for the team. I'm beyond excited and feel like this is what ive always wanted. I'm excited to go to SWAT school and find my role on the team.

Congratulations scooter. Ironically, this morning I was expressing my gratitude for having gotten out of LE with my life. It’s been nearly 11 years since I’ve been shot at. You and all active LEOs are in my prayers every day.

Well we have switched duty guns from the SIG 320 to the Glock 17 MOS with Holosun.

First pistol I have shot with an optic.

    It's pretty alright!!!!

I have a 100 yd steel plate range at my house so I spent a chunk of my weekend just shooting one round at a time from holster presentation to get used to the holster (7360) and to get comfortable finding the dot on presentation. About two mags in I was already noticeably faster and once I figured out not to turn my head to the right (right handed but left eye dominant) as I normally do with irons I was faster still.

I'm super pleased. Probably do 500 more rounds before we qualify next week.

Just learned my local university has 14 in their academy. 10 years ago it was 40+ after people were eliminated.
