    I'm still fairly new as well. :)

    I think I watched that video right when I started becoming interested in off-roading. If I recall, they concluded that 33" was a good middle ground for mixed use.

    I might consider 35's in the future, but for now the cons outweigh the pros. Also, I'm not ready to regear and do the other necessary modifications to fit them.

    And, a lot can be done on the stock tire size. There are a lot of people I hit trails with who are on stock size, and have no trouble on the trails we run.

    You’re right, 33 was the conclusion. Stock is right at 32 depending on brand. I just bought General Grabbers and they are a little larger than my Wranglers.

    LS swap is always the answer! Obviously there's some wild ones, but I'd happily take a 6.2 liter with AFM disabled. Would probably still get better mileage than the 4 liter, LOL.

    Good choice! I put about 15,000 miles on mine, I like them a lot. I live in Rhode Island so I haven't had a chance to really do a lot of off-roading, but they were good in the snow last winter. Hopefully we get more snow this winter.

    I went with stock size on mine, I didn't think trying to stuff something bigger on there was worth the drawbacks since I wasn't lifting it. And even the stock size Grabber looks a lot bigger than the stock size Bridgestone.

    I suppose, if you want big power and have a fat wallet. But, a GX swap is basically plug and play. Good luck finding exhaust manifolds for an LS that fit in a 4Runner. ;)

    I think they are great. The ride on the road is amazing. There’s a tire rating site snd it was rated very high in all categories.

    It could be just because of the aggressive tread and sidewall. I've noticed that lifted 4Runners, in general, look weird with stock size tires, unless the have a more aggressive design. With an aggressive AT or MT they look much better. Just my opinion, though.

    If one already got stock size A/Ts it won't look too bad until you get some budget for bigger ones. My SR5 had 265s when I lifted.

    I’ve ran 32, 33, tall skinny 32, tall skinny 33, but now wanna try a 35.

    On a side note just changed my front and rear diff fluid, engine oil, all filters and will be doing spark plugs tomorrow in preparation for 35s haha. Probably won’t make a difference but I want the GX to run top notch with the 35s.

    If I can give any suggestion… go with a 34” first or at least compare the tire sizes in person first. I have a 285/75/17 and I put them up next to a 35 and you can’t tell much of a difference since a 35 is more closely a 34.3 inch tire. The wider the tire the more stress on steering components (power steering). I heard people install power steering coolers for 35” tires. Idk if there is much added benefit to get 1/4 of an inch lift. But I would be curious as to what you decide when you do pull the plug.

    Great picture!

    That's a perfect example of what I'm saying! It looks great with those KO2's! But, they look weird lifted with the stock granny tires.


    This will vary from one manufacturer to another. But, you're correct. It seems that most tires are a bit off from the exact measurements according to the sidewall.

    Heck, after reading this, and doing some poking around on a few tire manufacturers' websites, I think I'll go with 35's for my next set of MT's. The size difference from my 295's isn't really that much.

    I thought about a 34” but decided to go big or go home haha. The Yokohamas are 34.8” so pretty much a 35”.

    I’ve seen a GX460 with 285/75s and still looked too small. I guess time will tell if I’ve made the right decision. I do plan on regearing to ease stress on the drivetrain.

    You're 100% correct, that's what it is. The more aggressive tread and squared off sidewall make it look larger, and they definitely give it a much better look than the stock tires. When I had the Grabbers put on, even my GF noticed that they looked larger, and she doesn't care about stuff like that.

    But yes, I do like big power. And big torque. For my fantasy build, a 4.6 is entirely too small to waste time swapping in. :D

    I think the 35x10.50 Kenda RT is an intriguing size. It's the width that causes most of the frame rubbing issues, correct? I bet the 10.50 width would be a little easier to fit.

    I REALLY wanted to give the 33x10.50 version of that tire a go on my 4R, but was couldn't bring myself to pull the trigger. I wasn't certain it would fit on stock height, and I figured it'd kill my mileage, as that's about a 60 lb tire from what I've read.

    I could see the use for big power of you're building a mudding rig with 40+" tires. For what I do, I'll take smoothness and reliability, with excellent low end torque.

    The width definitely doesn't help. But, skinny or fat, 35's are going to require some chopping. I already have a BMC, so if I'm going 35, I'll go all out. Nothing against tall skinnies, but I want as much footprint as possible.

    My 295's are about 65#. You definitely feel it when you're driving aggressively. Luckily, I've gotten accustomed to 4Runners, so I rarely attempt anything aggressive. And, when I do, I'm prepared for how slow it's going to move. :turtleride:

    I too thought about a skinny 35 but wanted a tire that’s wide enough to “float” over obstacles.

    Skinnies definitely have some benefits. I just prefer a wide tire. One of my main considerations was deep sand.
