This is a dumb question because I know zero about electrical. Could these be ran just right off the reverse light wires? Or is this one of those things that need power straight from the battery?

Not a dumb question my man.

So you'd want them to be powered via the vehicle battery and use the relay that comes with the kit. However, if you can find the wire that powers on the reverse lights in your taillights, you could tap into that and use that instead of the switch that comes with it. That would mean any time the truck is in reverse, these lights go on.
