So I went to the 2017 eclipse in my impala. Drove like 11 hours. I don’t know how it translated but going to Wyoming got my mind back onto off-roading and back country exploring . Used to do this in my late teens early twenties.

wasn’t quite sure what vehicle to get . Before the pandemic of course wasn’t too hard. Got a great jeep for under 5k that unfortunately sold. Got a 4Runner 3rd gen because it had room to sleep in. Dragged my kids to the Wyoming red desert over thanksgiving as a maiden voyage, tried to sleep 3 people in the back in weather in the teens . Didn’t work so great so spent the rest of the night driving like 5 hours back to Rawlins and a warm bed and hot and ready breakfast. Also almost drove off a snowy cliff in the dark. Felt bad for all the little bunnies running around in the dark. Still a bit annoyed I could have just went to lander but at least we were closer to home.

time passed moved back west. Now great off-roading and adventures could be had literally 5 minutes from home. But did a few things I shouldn’t have and started bashing up my 4th gen . And my dog ripped up the carpet in the back. The ac went out (no wasn’t just coolant). Shocks failed or were destroyed and the shop that replaced them did something wrong so I couldn’t go off any minor bump without a massive clunk.

by then it was Covid time. 4Runners hard to find. Sold my 4Runner for 7k, cashed in my doge coin a few weeks later than I should have, deposited my stimulus checks and put down a down payment on a shiny sr5 2022 (wanted an off road but in retrospect I don’t think the locker is really worth it).

they promised me a blue one but when I showed up it was white. Didn’t really bother me my first one was white so it felt right.

have about 10k miles on it now. There was a slight lull in adventures for a few years but the miles are starting to rack up now. Still stock but put the cartrimhome faux trd skid plate on (I bashed the original up pretty bad trying a trail that was no problem for my 4th gen which I think was lifted In some way or maybe they are just better with clearance and angles). Put on my favorite tires k02s and a front runner 3/4 rack. Made a leveling platform in the back. Put on a transmission cooler to pull a gross weight 3000 lb travel trailer. Then signed up for an account here.

Great story! I like how you used the Covid debacle to spring board up to a 5th gen T4R. Welcome to the forum!
