I've come over recently from the Tacoma forum after selling my 06 TRD and buying a 2024 4Runner SR5 blackout. Maybe 4Runner folks are a bit mellower? I don't miss some of the stuff going on at the Tacoma Forum.
There's a weird repetitive posting "For Shauna" that I don't miss.

Well I'm just coming back to forums after a 10-ish year hiatus. I used to be on Yotatech constantly so I tried that first when coming back I could almost picture a post apocalyptic town with dust and tumbleweeds and the occasional survivor puttering away on their yota stopping to watch you walk past... It was dead dead dead. Topics with no post in 10 years kind of stuff.

Then tried t4r and it worked ok if I used duck duck go, but it didn't seem that much was going on there either.

Then I stumbled in here and it has that old mid 2000s feel. Yeah there's not as much tech and write ups as the old days but there always seems to be someone that can direct you to just the right YouTube or site to answer your question. Plus it also kinda has that "in this together" feel. And the side discussions can be hilarious.

But I think the OP of this thread might have checked out...

I like how this forum is kinda like hanging out in the garage with some friends. It's as much conversational as it is technical.

I've been on some other forums that are purely technical. Those are great too for specific things.

This forum is currently a nice mix of technical and social. The balance has a lot to do with the number of members. There's an ebb and flow as the number of members grows.

I've found the other 4runner forum to be completely unusable with all the ads and it's just not a pleasant user experience at all. Not because of members but because the forum software is... miserable.

I find that generally the atmosphere on this forum is less aggro than most other forums I’ve been on, and questions are often answered quickly and with some pretty good discussions and differing opinions without it becoming a genitalia measuring contest. I don’t go on forums to socialize, so a massive number of new posts per minute is meaningless to me, this forum is plenty active. The forum I used to spend by far the most time sinking into was advrider, due entirely to their “ride reports” subforum that is epic, and when we brought that up to the admin here, they were kind enough to create a trip report subforum for us as well. I have nothing bad to say about this forum.

I'm not sure how your browser works, but I'm able to scroll right past threads I'm not interested in without it bothering me.

I'm also not sure what's so weird about someone starting a thread to support a member who lost a child. But, I'm sure the folks posting in there don't miss you, either.

I would 100% agree with the "stock" 4Runner thing. I bet for every 10 that I see, maybe 2 or 3 have upgraded wheels/tires, maybe a lift or 2 in that bunch, a bumper here or there, some with a winch.. etc. There are people that have 4Runners and the only thing they are to them is another form of transportation, they could care less what they drive. Been a "car guy" since I can remember, it was mechanical curiosity, the love of body lines, the performance, or things about certain models that interested me. If you want info about a certain vehicle.. hang around people with the same kind of vehicle. I like being in this forum because I'm not on any other 'social media' sites, also, there is a bunch of great people on this forum, with a bunch of great info and technical data about the vehicles we love.

There is a backstory to that. There is a thread that many folks screw around in (whatever), and the core group have been interacting with each other for some time. Then, Shauna’s kid passed and like somethings on TW, for shauna took on a life of its own.

Since I have owned all three Tacoma’s, Tundra, and now 4runner I’m on all three forum sites and Toyota.org site. Plus so much mods and knowledge on the three Facebook pages I follow on the 4Runner’s. Plenty to choose from.

Stock is good. There was a time when we did some mild off-roading with friends, but life happened. I have a 2019 today that has never been off road. I bought it for its capability and dependability. Hope to go off-road again but don’t know if I will be able to. But at least my stock 4R is good in snow!

if you actually read it it’s a bunch of repeating good morning and good night Jimbob and 30 different names sorta like turned into an inside joke amongst a few of them but pretty inappropriate and irrelevant for a public forum has nothing to do with that poor lady’s kid anymore also I’ve never even seen that Shauna lady post ever so it’s not like she was a major figurehead on tacomaworld

I thought this forum was pretty active. maybe you just need to be in the right sub-forum area? I have some recommendations on how to get more activity around here:
    1. Ask for ideal engine oil change frequency. Bonus points: ask for which brand everyone uses.
    2. Ask about raptor lights, if "285s will rub".
    3. Bash EVs, see folks lose their sh*t. Bash ICE see more folks lose their sh*t.
    4. Bash new LC 250, GX550, 6th gen.

I am pretty sure I am missing some good subjects. You will not find a more active, lively bunch after that

All kidding aside I am unsure why you think this isn't an active forum. No other forum more active that this one.

It's in the "off-topic" forums, so it really doesn't matter if it's relevant or not. As mentioned above, scroll right past if it doesn't interest you.

Shauna posts in there occasionally, and pops in the other regional threads from time to time.

All I know is that I dunno anything bout automobiles

I know the puzzle, blood test, n 1st born to enter forum
    N this one

I know when I first got my truck n took advantage of memebers leftovers, actual ebay sales, n group buys…yes GROUP BUYS
That I was preemptively purchasing things I would want/need at a fraction of the cost n which would serve a purpose until their REAL intended use

Now, I hate that I haven’t been able to truly utilize my truck…life got reeeeeeal lifey

But I know that if I have any issue, concern, question or even an idea that I can come here…this forum, religiously

Nowadays I know a good amount bout my truck(even though terminology n I don’t get along)

However…if people who freely come here can’t handle you
    ‘S

    That’s on them…

I learned to search, browse n actually read threads, which I honestly would just like to thank all of you for…major contributors, one n dones, n even the “another {blank} thread”ers

    Side note:
Long live Y2K…a time when the end of the world was exciting n not some hogwash digital comment

I'm sorry. I really am. I've seen your posts for a long time and you clearly provide a lot of value to this community and are one of the very active people that makes this place what it is. However at the end of the day and when it comes down to brass tacks you just aren't @JET4 No one is though. Please take solace on that.

Too many mods and too much money
I think tech thread searches can be much more accessible on an old school forum like this one.
SM sites and their algorithms make it tough for good searches.
The .org had great tech and discussions, but even before they had the spam and other issues in the last few years, this platform is SO MUCH MORE user friendly. Thanks @Bob and crew !!!

I would like to see more tech stuff, but currently the ability to afford and implement custom mods is tough right now.

There is a guy over on .org that is a rock star in the 4th gen section providing tech repairs w instruction and detailed pics, as well as compiling lists of other members mods and repairs with parts numbers and links. Invaluable info on these threads. Hate to see them get lost in a dead zone of spam and hideous pictures of toe nail fungus.

Not so much detailed tech over here. But there are good discussions with very helpful and talented people on here though.

Sometimes the dog pile of unrelated or sidebar posts can be hard to sift through on certain threads, but this forum is a great asset to the community. Especially shoppers and new owners.

I wholeheartedly agree, people should ditch their 5th gens as soon as possible and enjoy the innovative 6th gen, especially current owners of OR/ORP without KDSS.
